| hollywoodgirl's Full Review: Clairol Infusium 23 Original Leave In Treatment fo... |
I've been using this wonderful product for the last near 25 years and believe me, this has rescued me from some very bad hair years, let alone days, lol! The water-like consistency may seem to some too thin to work to "repair" the hair and restore it. Since I first used the Original formula, Infusium 23 which used to be made by Duart, has come out with a myriad of formulas and products, all of which are very high quality and blow some of their higher end salon sister products out of the water!
My hair is very fine, wavy and tends towards the frizzies more often than I care to admit, so I am always on the look out for something that can control my frizzies and strengthen my hair in the process. This product can be used either on wet or dry hair, it is important though, to comb it in really thoroughly to ensure that it coats every section of the hair, without over saturating the hair.
Like its name implies, this is a leave-in conditioner, whether you use it on wet or dry hair, absolutely don't rinse it out!!!! I prefer to put this in after shampoo and conditioner which I need less of when using this, as this is so concentrated, despite its watery consistency. Proctor & Gamble, which makes the Infusium offers this product in a large 16 oz sized bottle as well as smaller spray type bottles. I recommend the spray variety, unless you don't mind saturating a cotton ball and distributing the product. Personally, the spray bottle which is very well designed for optimum distribution is much much easier to negotiate.
A few years ago, I got a salon straightening treatment which left my already dryish hair rather parched and lifeless looking, never again! I went home with tears in my eyes, but as soon as I spotted my beloved Infusium in the bathroom, I went right to the bottle and sprayed the precious stuff out, all over my hair. I picked up the blowdryer and blew dry my hair dry, I was astounded at how back to normal the hair looked just minutes after getting that awful professional straightening procedure. Thank God for Infusium, I would have had to wait out the awful dry, shineless hair until it grew out. Even my most expensive, professional arsenal of conditioners could never have instantly turned my hair back into its beautiful self like the Infusium did. In fact, I haven't used any other leave-in that has the ability to instantly transform even the most dried out mess of a head of hair into a much healthier, more beautiful version. This stuff is truly amazing and is far cheaper than other products of its kind.
As for ingredients, this is a vitamin packed concoction that includes 23 essential pro-vitamins and other treatment ingredients, thus the name. The most important ingredients in this are: panthenol for volume, lysine, a natural emollient mineral, hydrogenated castor oil for shine and lustre, many water-binding agents, and glycerin also for adding shine and smoothness. The bottle doesn't state which or what vitamins this contains, I wish they would, but I am guessing that many of the vitamins in this would be Vitamin B which is a healthy component of hair and especially B-12 complex which promotes healthy hair and hair growth, these are only guesses however.
What I also like about this very light, pleasant scented formula is that it doesn't just act as a band-aid to cover up bad hair, it actually "restores and re-structurizes" the hair shaft to put damaged hair on the path to improvement and a healthier appearance. Most leave-ins don't contain so many hair helper vitamins and consequently, they only act as a quick fix that temporarily improves the hair's overall look and appearance. This product however, actually goes to the root of the hair and works to promote healthier hair, while instantly transforming its appearance, a great thing! I know that it must help to repair the hair as it promises on the label, as my hair is far less breakable and much stronger when I used this. I didn't use this for two months, as I ran out when I was in the Caribbean and I noticed how much my hair was breaking off even when using a curling iron, I have never had that problem when I use this. In fact, I have noticed that with each use, my hair just seems to keep improving, a feat that my hairdresser has remarked on, even without my saying anything.I am also amazed at how light this is on my fine hair, never weighs it down and doesn't leave it greasy as some leave-ins can do.
As you can probably tell from reading my review, I absolutely swear by this very gentle, but potent product. Like I mentioned before, I can't tell you how many leave-ins I have used before, Biolage, TresSemme, Influx (an Infusium knock-off) and many others. I always go back to this one and you know what? I don't think I will ever stray again, this is just too good!
