Susie-34668's Full Review: Clairol Shimmer Lights Shampoo 8oz
My hair used to be brown, then I went to the hairdressers and became a blonde for a few years. When I started turning grey it didn't come in 'salt and pepper' style. I just got one big patch at the crown of my head. There was no way that the hairdresser could cover this patch. Therefore for the past 8 years I have had streaks/highlights put in my hair. This looks really good on me because I have brown, grey, and blonde hair.
My problem is that a couple of weeks after I have the highlights put in my hair they tend to look brassy. My hairdressers told me about Clairol Professional Shimmer Lights. She told me that I needed to go to a hairdresser's outlet/store. The only one we have in our area is Sally's. You can go in there and pay retail if you are someone like me or if you have a beauty license you get wholesale prices.
I purchased the 8 fl. oz. size for $6.99. There was a 16 fl. oz. as well and I believe that was around $13 at the time. This was almost a year ago and now it is time to get another one. The shampoo states on the bottle for blonde and silver hair. It comes in a purple bottle and the shampoo is a purple color too. It has a pleasing clean refreshing smell to it.
I normally wash my hair every 4-5 days as my hair is long and I blow dry it, use a curling iron on my hair, and then put it into a French roll. It normally take me about an hour to do. Then I let down the back at night and redo it in the morning.
When I wash my hair I use a cheap shampoo like V.O.5 for the first wash. I pick this up for less an a dollar a bottle. Then I flick the top of my bottle of Clairol Professional Shimmer Lights to reveal a small opening. I tip the bottle and watch to make sure only a small amount comes out. This is around the size of a quarter. I then get my finger tips and put a little of the shampoo at the front, top, sides, and back of my hair. As my hair is already wet from the first shampoo it lathers up really well and looks a very pale shade of purple.
I leave the shampoo on my hair for about 5 minutes. During this time I shower myself and take care of any other needs. Then I rinse it off. I do not use a conditioner on my hair after this product.
After combing, putting mousse in my hair, and then blow drying it my highlights look really good. There is no yellowing or brassiness in my hair, just the natural brown, gray, and the blonde. This product works really great for me.

Renews & refreshes faded highlights and ash-toned hair. Removes dull yellow in gray / white hair. Leaves hair shiny without residue.
Directions: Wet hair. Lather, rinse, and repeat. For extra brightening & color, leave second lather on 3-5 minutes. No patch test required."
I did try using the Shimmer Lights Shampoo for the first and second shampoo but found this to be wasteful for me. My color wasn't any better and I was using twice as much shampoo. I then tried using the Shimmer Lights Shampoo first and then my cheaper shampoo for the second application and my color was okay but didn't jump out at me.
By using the cheaper shampoo for the first shampoo, I am saving myself $6.99 on purchasing another bottle of this product. and I achieve the same results as using Shimmer Lights twice.
