About Me: I can't believe it's been 12 years!

Feel like royalty when you blush yourself with powder.

Written: Oct 20 '06
Pros:Lightweight, comfortable, blush that adds a slight glow.
Cons:The price.
The Bottom Line: Another great Clarins product that is expensive but acts differently than less expensive drug store brands.

As my skin got better with the Obagi System I wanted a new start. I went to the Clarins' counter where a woman named Linda was very helpful. I am very happy with Clarins Hydra-Balance Tinted Moisturizer SPF 6. Next while sitting in the chair in the department store was blush. Linda suggested Clarins Blush Powder.

The powder:

I must tell the reader that my daughter is getting married so $150.00 on Clarins products isn’t something I am even blinking an eye over. However if I don’t think that down the road I would ever spend $27.00 for .17 ounces of blush I will tell you.

When I came home and opened the box I felt like royalty. I either hadn’t noticed what Linda was using or she was just using the insert. Inside a red mesh lined pouch was a gorgeous red compact. The compact comes with a nice brush but I like the look of the brush I have now for my old blush. It is big with a round head rather than a thin head. I just find that the bigger bristles give me a more natural look. Linda used that kind of brush.

Looking at the picture I see what looks like a plain compact. Mine has silver around the blush and brush and red around the mirror.

In any case I would have been very happy with a very plain compact for $5.00 less. The compact has a mirror, which is always nice to have but really how many of us put on blush and either need a mirror or even if you do put it on in front of others to show off this gorgeous compact?

Linda tried on a couple of colors on me. I let her choose and she went with nude pink. You’ll also find this in rose petal, heather pink, rosewood, sienna and terra. She told me I had fair skin so if your skin is darker you will want to go with a darker shade.

“The final step in make-up application to sculpt facial features and enhance cheekbones. The combination of subtle colour and a very fine, soft texture.” (from www.clarins.com)

The benefits:

Clarins Powder Blush is dermatologist tested and non comogenic (won’t clog pores).

We are told that the blush will enhance the natural radiance of my complexion and will shape and sculpt my face. We are told that it will help conceal the appearance of wrinkles. Linda told me that all the products I bought were healing i.e. they would improve my skin rather than just adding color. We are told that the blush will protect my
skin and prevents drying. We are told it would feel comfortable, give me a healthy glow and be comfortable to wear.

Ingredients:

On the website we are told that Clarins has an “exclusive Anti-Pollution Complex” with anti-dehydrating active agents and ingredients that will protect my skin from harmful effects of pollution and UV rays. There is no mention anywhere that there is any sun protection factor in this blush. I believe after reviewing so many products that if there were it would be listed on the front. It is possible that one or more of the ingredients have something in them that has an SPF of some amount that is too small to list. I certainly suggest that you always wear sunscreen (30+) under your makeup.

I am going to list some of the ingredients. I will be glad to list all of them if you want. I have to use a magnifying glass so I’m making the list short. There are a lot of ingredients including talc, nylon 12, silca, mica, zinc stearate, alcohol, stearates, colors, sorbic acid, fragrance, and eugenol.

Using my powder:

I didn’t watch how Linda applied this powder but I think I’ve read enough to know to begin at the cheekbone and work your way up to the temple. It is suggested, which I do to add some blush just under the eyebrows and for the most facial sculpting sweep the brush over the forehead, chin and jaw line. My gown has a v-neck so I will be brushing some blush on to my chest.

The powder has a pleasant smell and feels smooth and silky when I rub my fingers over it.

My experience:

My powder goes on really nicely. It easily blends into my skin without leaving streaks. It is light in texture and doesn’t leave any clumps on my skin. In addition it doesn’t dry my skin or leave my skin feeling tight. It truly is very comfortable.

I really don’t have wrinkles where I put the powder so I am not depending on it to take care of the lines around my eyes. I’m depending on my Obagi C System for that.

Final thoughts:

Once again Clarins hasn’t disappointed me. Although every time I go to the health food grocery I say I am going to buy animal friendly make up with ingredients I can pronounce I guess I have to make choices and for now Clarins is my choice. My powder blush truly gives me a little bit of color that brightens my skin and makes my skin look as if I am not too made up but that I am not pale.

It’s so light and soft on my face I don’t feel it after wearing it all day. I do touch it up primarily because it is light both in color and weight that I feel I need a bit more during the day to brighten me up again.

It will last me longer than its shelf life I am sure. I don’t think I have actually ever finished any makeup before I think for health reasons I should replace it. Add the gorgeous compact and this is another 5 star Clarins product.
