I bought this product based on Clarins reputation, and previous, positive experiences with their products. After my purchase, I read some scathing reviews on epinions, and proceeded to "tan" with some trepidation.
I followed all instructions (exfoliate, then moisturize before applying). I should note that I used a different Clarins product on my face and neck, as I have sensitive skin.
I loved the feel of the product, silky & slippery, it spread easily over my skin. I was worried that it might leave me kind of greasy, but it absorbed nicely. Within about two hours, I noticed a color change. It deepened a little bit overnight. The color was very subtle, not a "deep dark" tan, and therefore quite natural looking. Kind of a light golden brown - not yellow, orange, reddish, or too bronzey. I've used many tanning products, and I'd say this provides the most natural color, with no blotchiness or streaking. An added bonus was that it left my skin feeling satiny smooth for the next two days (with my usual body lotion applied after showering). It began to fade quite naturally over about three days, with some residual color remaining.
About the smell - I've yet to use ANY self tanner that doesn't smell bad. This product had less of a smell than any I've used in the past, though it was still present. My husband said he couldn't smell it on me (he usually can). Overall, I think this is a GREAT product.
