Theres nothing worse then being on the road with a child that is sneezing and coughing with a red nose and watery eyes. Allergies attack anytime and anywhere, usually when I am not in range of a store or home. Thats why I bought Claritin Allergy 24 hour RediTabs
My grandson has Asthma and allergies just about all year round. He would spend the night or go to the city with me and his allergies would flare up. I bought a package ofClaritin Allergy 24 hour RediTabs to keep on hand for him and me.
Claritin Allergy 24 hour RediTabs
Claritin used to be a prescription drug but has recently been approved for the market as an OTC drug. The RediTabs are so great because they melt without water or anything to drink. They are easier for a child to take. They dont taste bad and have a slight mint flavor.
Claritin is an antihistamine that claims that it doesnt make you drowsy. There are no warnings about driving or operating machinery. I had been using Claritin for a few years for my allergies.
The OTC drug is still prescription strength. When the FDA approved this drug for Over the Counter use in December 2002, they made it more expensive for some people to purchase the drug. While it was a prescription drug, you could get a months supply under whatever insurance plan you had. Now the drug only comes in small packages that are expensive for many people to use. The Schering Corporation makes all the Claritin products. Clarinex is the drug many doctors are prescribing now instead of the now OTC Claritin RediTabs.
Claritin Allergy 24 hour RediTabs
Active ingredient is Lortadine 10 mg, an antihistamine that works for twenty-four hours in this form of the medication.
Inactive ingredients from the box citric acid, gelatin, mannitol, mint flavor.
Pros
Take once every 24 hrs.
Easy to take
No water needed
I keep it on hand in my purse, the glove compartment and at home for my grandson.
The package comes in two sizes: 4 tablets, and 10 tablets.
Buy at most large retailers, Wal-Mart, supermarkets, drugstores.
Safe for children over six years old.
It comes in different forms, tablets, liquid and one form that has a decongestant added.
Cons
Cost a little over a $1.00 a tablet unless you find a sale somewhere.
Insurance does not cover it anymore.
They come in the blister pack that takes a rocket scientist or a child to open, I get frustrated when I get the blister pack in my hand.
Warning from.healthsquare.com/newrx/CLA1083.HTMPDR
Although no harmful interactions with Claritin have been reported, there is a theoretical possibility of an interaction with the following drugs:
Antibiotics such as erythromycin
Cimetidine (Tagamet)
Ketoconazole (Nizoral)
My Experience
As soon as I go into the yard or shopping, I can look for the coughing and sneezing to start. I used to take the Claritin RediTab about an hour before I went out. They usually helped in about 45 minutes and would last about 10 hours and then the sneezing and runny nose was back for me. I would not be able to take anything else until the next day so I would suffer the rest of the time. I started taking something else that I could take only when needed and take it about every 6 hours. This seems to work better for me.
I dont take the Claritin RediTabs anymore. I do keep it on hand for my grandson when he needs it. It works really well for him and doesnt make him sleepy like a lot of the medications he takes. Yes, he was prescribed this medication before it became available OTC.
Side Effects were minimal for me, a little dry throat. Be aware that all drugs can have side effects and some of the usual for this drug are dry mouth, headache, sleepiness, yes, in some people this can be a side effect so make sure how you react to the drug before you drive with it.
There are warnings on the package so read carefully. Look for an expiration date before buying. Not all stores rotate the stock the way it should be rotated and outdated drugs removed.
Thanks for reading
