| jsweb's Full Review: Claritin 24 Hour Allergy Tablets 10 Each |
For most of my life, I have suffered severe allergies. I was tested for allergens, and was found to be at least somewhat allergic to 74 out of 75 of the allergens tested. When I was tested for the grasses, my arm swelled up so bad that it ruined the testing and had to be removed. I had always used over-the-counter drugs such as Benadryl, Chlor-Trimeton, and Actifed, all of which just drugged me out so I couldn't function. Many days, I was hit so hard that I had to be driven home from work to lay in bed.
Then, one day, my doctor prescribed Claritin and Nasonex nasal spray. Within days, my allergies were completely gone. For the past year, I've been allergy-free and introduced to a life that I've never known. After summer was over, I stopped taking the Nasonex to see what would happen, and I still had no symptoms. I wasn't even allergic to cats anymore!
Then, doomsday struck. I was told that Claritin would no longer be covered by my health insurance, and would only be available over-the-counter for about $1 per pill, up from the $0.10 per pill I was paying through my insurance. I went immediately to the doctor and asked for a different prescription, and was put on Clarinex, a similar drug.
I noticed sniffles slowly beginning to return, but nothing major until the weather turned warm. I was suddenly hit by a relentless onslaught of allergies, and headed back to the doctor. This time, he gave me Allegra in a whopping 180mg dose. After two more days of misery, I headed down to Costco and picked up sixty tablets of Claritin for about $50. That was earlier today. My nose has stopped running, the sneezes and watering eyes have stopped. All that remains is the drugged-out after-effects of several days of unrelenting attacks.
Claritin has indeed been a miracle drug for me, and if I have to bear the weight of a ten-fold increase in price, I'm just going to have to do it (at least for the summer months).
The tablets are easy to take, as they melt on your tongue, and leave you with no side effects. They aren't a whopping dose, however, so take them for a few days in a row to really get it kicked in. It also takes a couple of hours for it to really start working, so don't be surprised if at first it seems weak. If the price comes down to a reasonable level, I'll be first in line to use mine year-round.
