Pros: easy to use, some relief of allergy symptoms
Cons: some kids hate the taste, didn't completely get rid of my son's symptoms
The Bottom Line: This provides enough relief from my son's allergies that I can recommend it. It did not provide complete relief, however.

| AliventiAsylum's Full Review: Claritin Children's Formula Syrup, Fruit Flavored |
My kids seem to have inherited my slight allergies. I was tested and am allergic to all sorts of things, including mold, dust, pets, pollen, and more. That doesn’t mean we don’t have pets in the house, we just manage to deal with the way we feel most of the time as it’s not too bad. From time to time, the allergies flare up, particularly when those alerts are posted on the Weather Channel. I usually just follow suit that when I feel bad and need relief I know they will too. My youngest still isn’t at the age where he can swallow pills, so liquid medicine for allergies heeds to be kept in our home. I first purchased Claritin Children’s Formula Syrup a few years back when I first saw it. I really liked the idea that it was a non-drowsy medication. This made me feel comfortable giving it to him before I sent him off on the bus to school. I didn’t have worried about him being tired in class and having additional issues with his attention span simple because of the medicine I’d given him. Claritin Children’s Formula Syrup is a clear liquid in a 4 ounce bottle. The active ingredient is 5 mg of Loratadine, just like in the Claritin I take for my own allergies. The children’s liquid is alcohol-free and designed to relieve sneezing, runny nose, itchy watery eyes, and itchy throat or nose. There was a strong fruity aroma coming from the bottle when I first opened it. This was a strong indication of the fruity taste contained within. I had no trouble getting Claritin Children’s Formula Syrup into my son as he has never had a problem taking any of the children’s medication. However, a friend of ours needed allergy medication for his son and this boy finds all of these medicines disgusting. He thought this Claritin formula was one of the worst he’d ever tasted. This is something to keep in mind if your child isn’t crazy about the typical taste of children’s medicine. I have to say that my son’s nose did seem to improve after taking Claritin Children’s Formula Syrup. His allergies didn’t disappear completely, but he was very obviously not suffering as much as he had before. His allergies were now manageable instead of having his nose constantly running. He didn’t seem to be the least bit lethargic, nor did his teacher report and behavioral changes after taking it. That is good to know. Since the dosage is once in a 24 hour period, I wasn’t sure how long it truly was effective. When he went to bed he still had the slight stuffy nose, but not terribly bad. I was concerned that the dosage for a 6 year old was the same as for an adult. Would it prove too much for him? It didn’t seem to be, that’s for sure. This medicine would also be a good alternative for older children, teens, and adults who have difficulty swallowing pills of any sort. My son knew after a while to ask for the Claritin Children’s Formula Syrup as it made him feel better. He still needed an occasional tissue, but his nose wasn’t running constantly as it had been before. I think overall this made it easier for him to get through his day although it didn’t solve the problem completely. Still, I would recommend it to any parent who needs to find something to give their child to help alleviate seasonal and household allergies. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Directions: Adults and children 6 years of age and over, 2 teaspoonfuls daily.
