Really appreciate your information, asafono. I'm going to check out the generic OTC you mentioned right away.

Yes, a genetic OTC with 10 mg loratidine works well for me.

You are a good Mom. It is worth the bit of extra money if it can help your younger son get a decent night's rest.

Based on a sample of one is okay by me, asafono. I figure my son has been using this product now for a week or two, but will discontinue fairly soon. But still I do want to check out what you are saying. Do you find good results with just the one ingredient?

By all means, check this information out, and talk to a doctor friend (or two.) My evidence is entirely anecdotal, and based on a sample of one. I had a friend in high school who, suffering often from allergies and colds, used pseudoephedrine nasal drops several times daily. As far as I know, he had to keep using them even after he moved to a desert climate where colds and allergies would have been unlikely.

Interesting asafono...I did not know about the possible side effects of pseudoephedrine. I'll check into that though. Thanks for the info.

I am not a doctor, (Reply to this comment)
by asafono
just an allergy sufferer - I made the decision to use a cheaper store-brand medicine that contains only loratadine and is equivalent to one of the Claritin formulations. I did not want take pseudoephedrine, partly because of the cost, and partly because I believe it may be addictive for one's nasal cavity :)

Hey Doug - Thanks for your comment. The directions stated not to take more than the recommended dosage or it could cause drowsiness, so I take that to mean that if you take one each 12 hours, you would be okay. I'm going to check it out online and see if we can purchase it for less $$! Thanks!

That sounds like a great idea, Kim! I think I'll keep an eye on my son's symptoms and maybe we'll do just what you did. Thanks!

I have stayed with the plain Claratin and order it via www and get it for 15cents each and I am sure that is not the cheapest do you take the D now and prefer it? I always felt the adjusted it to keep it under RX...? but you are saying you bought at local drug store...so all D containing medication tend to make you sleepy...and this one doesn't I guess?

Claritin... (Reply to this comment)
by kld718, in Wellness & Beauty
I tell ya...I don't know what I would do if they didn't manufacture this stuff. Granted it's expensive, so I usually only use it during the day when I need something non-drowsy (I depend on other cheaper OTC products at night), but it works so well that I'm thinking it's worth the price all the time.
Great write-up on a wonderful product!

Thanks so much for your comment. I didn't know about the "Y" thing, but I do know about other words such as neighbour (we spell it "neighbor").
It's just more fancy that way! ha!
Glad Claritin/Clarytin/Clarityn worked for you too!

Oh these things are fantastic!! It's that time of year when I'm on 1 a day for "Itchy, watery eyes". I'd be completely lost without them. Eyes itching and watering all over the place, not pleasant, LOL.
Glad they're helping your son. They're definitely worthy of 5 stars.
Oddly, they're called Clarityn here, though. Why Europe saw fit to substitute 1 letter "i" for a "y" I have no idea.
Strange lot those Europeans.
Anyway, great write-up.
Cheers!
