Pros: Strong, spacious, rugged, stylish.
Cons: Shoulder pads wear out too quickly.
The Bottom Line: Besides two tiny flaws, this is the best backpack ever, with five roomy compartments, all the storage space you'll need for school or travel, lots of comfort, and strong construction.

| Zifa's Full Review: Classic Big Student |
From 7th to 10th grades I used a Jansport Amarillo in school. Most people carried that, or a similar bag, because it was sturdy, held a lot, and had a good name. When the zipper on mine finally broke in 10th grade, I knew it was time for a new bag. After shopping around with my mom at the luggage store, I had made up my mind: I was getting a green Jansport Big Student. The Big Student has just as much area in the main compartments as the Amarillo, but you may not notice it because instead of being one 6" pocket, it's divided into a 2" pocket and a 4" pocket. At first I didn't like that idea, but now I don't know what I would do without the two pockets. In high school, I didn't have much time to change my books at my locker between classes, so I often had to carry a lot of heavy books at once, and splitting them into two pockets seemed to make packing and carrying them a lot easier.
Also, I love the small top front pocket. I carry pens and pencils in there, and anything else small that I don't want to lose. The other two front pockets are a lot bigger than they look. Things have gotten lost in there. Also, the organizer panel is sturdy. In other backpacks, the organizer has torn off, or started to unravel. Not so in the Big Student - it has stayed firm and secure for last 3 years that I've used this bag. And it's still going strong.
The back and the straps are padded, meaning you don't get poked in the back by corners of books, which is nice. At first I was worried about the bottom not having the leather cover, which my old backpack had, but it's surprisingly sturdy. Also waterproof - did I mention that? Things inside stay totally dry, protected by the waterproof lining and the flaps over the zippers.
I only have two complaints about this bag. One is that the padding in the shoulder straps wore out very quickly. My old backpack has more padding left in it now than the Big Student had at the end of its first month. Also, the inside lining kind of flakes off in these weird gray chunks which stick to whatever might be inside. But I can overlook these flaws, and say that the Jansport Big Student is the greatest backpack I have ever owned.
