| Kittyokc's Full Review: Claw Pals Cardboard Scratcher Refill with Catnip |
With all the cat toys that come with corrugated cardboard, these refills have come in real handy, especially since the cats love it. First off, we didn't have the Claw Pals Doublewide Scratcher, but we've used the Claw Pals Cardboard Scratcher Refill for our cat furniture/condo that has a slanted corrugated cardboard attachment, just with some modifications.
As far as the product itself, it's a two pack refill for the Claw Pals Doublewide Scratcher. It comes with two 8 3/4" X 18 1/2" pieces of corrugated cardboard and a little packet of catnip to sprinkle on and in the nooks and crannies for added interest for your cat.
We modify the size of the corrugated cardboard to fit in our cat furniture. The furniture came with a slim, slanted part that is attached to the furniture so cats can scratch on it. Unfortunately, we haven't been able to find the right sized refills for this since it only measures 5" X 18", an odd size compared to most stand alone scratchers. So, what we do is cut these refills down to the size so that it will slip into the opening on the toy. The rest of the corrugated cardboard that is leftover ends up being put on the floor in front of the cat furniture so the cats can scratch on that too.
The cats seem to love to scratch on the corrugated cardboard and while it does leave a mess the more the cats use it, it is well worth it and the pieces left on the floor from their scratching can easily be cleaned up with a quick vacuum. We don't have to use the catnip to entice the cats to use the scratcher either, that's how much they love it, the little pack of catnip is just an added bonus for those that need that extra push to get their cats to use the scratcher. We will usually sprinkle the catnip on the scratcher part that we fit into their furniture and into the smaller piece we leave on the floor so the cats don't argue over it as much since they tend to get pretty possessive when catnip is used and then we usually have a standoff.
If you're like me and have a hard time finding refills for your corrugated cat toys, check out Petco and pick up the Claw Pals Cardboard Scratcher Refill, you may have to cut it down to size, but it's better to have to do that then have a toy that you don't have a refill for and that your cats might not play with anymore. These can also be used as a standalone toy if you would like, just place it on the floor, sprinkle the catnip on it and watch your cats scratch away. Amazing how something so simple like corrugated cardboard can entertain your cat and help keep their claws health at the same time.
The price listed here says it's $12.44, but we bought it in store for only $10, so it's not really a bad deal considering these can last quite a long time even with your cats scratching on it daily.
