| cinnamon203's Full Review: Clean & Clear Astringent Blackhead Clearing |
If you deal with blackheads, you know how difficult it can be to find any product, expensive or cheap, that actually works to loosen and remove these stubborn blemishes. I deal with blackheads the worst on my nose, and also a little on my forehead, chest, and back. At the time I bought this product, I was most concerned with removing the blackheads on my nose. They were driving me crazy because many times it seems like there is just no getting rid of these guys, as they're so deep into your already-clogged pores.
While I wouldn't call Clean and Clear Blackhead Clearing Astringent a "miracle worker," it did indeed help loosen my blackheads, especially on my nose and chest. It made them loose enough so that most could be removed gently by squeezing or using a blackhead tool. It was no magic cure as it took time to gradually loosen the blackheads, but considering that it only costs $4-$5, I got more for my money than you might expect.
I have yet to find any product that remove blackheads just like that or loosens them up enough to be removed immediately after application. So far, the best blackhead product I've found on the market is Clean and Clear Blackhead Clearing Astringent, which you can find by all of the other Clean and Clear products at your local drugstore or supermarket.
WHAT DOES THE COMPANY CLAIM THAT THIS PRODUCT DOES? (according to www.cleanandclear.com)
Tackle blackheads! This astringent has a unique formula that reaches deep down to the pores to remove dirt and oil that can cause blackheads. It contains a blackhead fighting medicine that helps treat and helps prevent future blackheads. It leaves you with clean, noticeably clearer skin.
WHAT DOES THE PRODUCT REALLY DO?
Clean and Clear seems to give off the impression that you will immediately be left with clean, noticeably clearer skin, and that's something that needs to be clarified. You will see clean, noticeably clearer skin after a couple of weeks when you've started to squeeze out the loosened blackheads. You WILL NOT apply this astringent, look in the mirror, and scream out, "My skin! It's gorgeous!" Just like so many other acne products on the market, it takes time. When shopping for any acne product, whether it be by Clean and Clear, Neutrogena, Clearasil... whatever it may be... it's silly to expect immediate improvement because you're hardly ever going to get that result.
Other than that, Clean and Clear states a good product claim. The astringent really does tackle blackheads and loosen them up tremendously. And in my experience, it has also prevented future blackheads.
PRICE, SIZE, AND APPEARANCE:
At www.drugstore.com, you can buy an 8-fl-oz bottle of Clean and Clear Blackhead Clearing Astringent for $4.99. At Walmart or Target, I typically find this product for $3.99. Either price is a good price in my book, considering that this is one of those few blackhead products on the market that actually works.
You can find Clean and Clear Blackhead Clearing Astringent in a somewhat tall, purple bottle with a purple flip-top cap. On the front of the bottle, you'll see the Clean and Clear logo and the name and description of the product in white print. You can find this astringent in the same area where you would find other Clean and Clear products, more specifically where you would find the other Clean and Clear astringents, like Clean and Clear Deep Cleaning Astringent (the coral-colored one).
Clean and Clear Blackhead Clearing Astringent is sold at Walmart, Target, and most other drugstores and supermarkets.
SCENT/SKIN REACTION:
The scent is mild and pleasant, but nothing special. It doesn't have the extremely strong alcohol scent that Clean and Clear Deep Cleaning Astringent has. It's more mild than Clean and Clear Deep Cleaning Astringent (both in scent and how it feels on your skin). It doesn't burn like other Clean and Clear astringents do sometimes, but it also doesn't feel like it's quite as deep cleaning as other astringents. Still, it can be more pleasant to use than Clean and Clear Deep Cleaning Astringent as it doesn't temporarily leave your face red and burn your skin.
INGREDIENTS:
Salicylic acid 1% (active ingredient), water, SD alcohol 40-B, glycerin, PPG-5-Ceteth-20, Menthyl Lactate, fragrance
WHAT'S SO GOOD ABOUT IT:
-pleasant, mild scent
-mild on skin (doesn't burn or turn skin red)
-loosens blackheads, makes them easier to remove
-inexpensive
-readily available at most drugstores and supermarkets, and at www.drugstore.com
WHAT COULD BE BETTER:
-if it started loosening blackheads faster
-if it removed blackheads completely instead of just loosening them
WHAT ELSE YOU SHOULD KNOW:
-use this product 1-3 times a day to avoid irritation
-apply this product with a cotton ball
-keep out of reach of children
-do not swallow... if you do swallow this astringent, call a Poison Control Center immediately
-flammable... keep it away from open fire/flame
-be careful when using this product if you're using other acne products at the same time... if irritation occurs, stop using one or more products
WOULD I RECOMMEND IT? Yes. Until another product comes out on the market that actually removes blackheads immediately, I'll stick with Clean and Clear Blackhead Clearing Astringents. It doesn't remove the problem, but it does loosen it!
