I love the idea of the Clean & Clear blemish Concealing Treatment stick. My skin is a fair/medium olive, so I figured best to go with the medium color rather than the light (the only two choices I've found). One of the big problems for me right off the bat is that medium is anything but. I've got concealers labeled "light" that were darker than this! So I have played around with half a stick now. I put it on before foundation, I put it on before foundation and set it with powder, I put it on after foundation and before powder, and I put it on after foundation and powder and set it with powder. Setting it with powder seems to help, slightly. If I use it before applying foundation, it doesn't even attempt to conceal anything. I don't even know where it went! If I set it with powder first, it just gets gunky there, calling all kinds of attention to the zit, and anything you do to it from there, except wiping your face clean and starting over, will only make it worse. If I put it on after the foundation, it still manages to stick out like a sore thumb, or more like a neon light-- ZIT HERE. It's too light, and all attempts to darken it don't help. The concealer itself seems to be waxy, so even hours later, when I thought I've covered it up with a dark powder I bought just for that one purpose, I can look in the mirror and see a big patch of much lighter skin, and it's raised. The "concealer" in fact HIGHLIGHTS the zit no matter what I've tried. BUT, I hate to waste things, so, since this does SEEM to HELP heal my occasional pimple, I've relegated its use to days when I'm not going to be seen by anyone outside of my home (which happens, I work at home) or at night.
The Upside
Hmmmm, if you've got money burning in your pocket, you can get rid of some of it by buying this. Not that it's that expensive, it just is not worth it's price at all because it doesn't do what it leads you to believe it will do. I kind of like the color blue the tube is, and the nice gold-colored band classes it up. Problem is, when I'm covering up a zit, "classy" just isn't important. It does contain medication that does seem to heal heal my pimples, although not overnight or anything so miraculous.
The Downside
Ah, where to begin? It's pricey. It won't stay 2 minutes unless you set it with powder, and even then it's dicey. It doesn't conceal so much as highlight the pimple because the colors are way too light. The waxy nature of the stick seems to discourage any attempts to darken the concealer so that it matches skin tone leaving a light colored lump at best to point to your pimple. Oh, and I live in the hot and humid South-- this stuff is useless in the summer when I need it most. I haven't timed the melt-off rate, YET, but it's fast!
Probably the biggest downside to this product is the disappointment. Clean & Clear is a brand name I trust for several acne healing items. I had great hopes for this product-- in fact, I bought two when I first saw it, I was that sure it would do just what it promised (and I only get to Walmart once a month-- I didn't want to run out before my next trip!). For this product to fail so miserably, or to succeed with such poor results, was a big disappointment.
Overall
It had great promise. As I say in the title, it's a great idea, something we women with acne-prone skin have wished for and from a trusted company, but the product simply does not measure up to the hype. It needs a lot more work, and some darker colors. Remember-- light highLIGHTS, darker conceals.
