| wolfegirl29's Full Review: Clean & Clear Invisible Blemish Treatment |
Blemishes! Yuck. No one likes blemishes. Except for a lucky few, everyone gets them every once in awhile after their teenage years. Alas, I am not one of those lucky ones or I guess I wouldn’t be writing a review about Clean & Clear Invisible Blemish Treatment. I picked up this little product on a random trip to CVS a few months back. I had been having some big blemish problems. Nothing too serious, but it had become somewhat annoying. From what the product description was stating, that it was for the treatment of acne and maximum strength. Since I don’t actually have acne, just occasionally single breakouts, I thought that would be tough enough to handle my facial dilemmas.
I used the product that evening. The directions on the bottle say to “Wash face, pat dry. Apply thin layer of product to problem areas.” So that’s what I did. A few seconds after the application I experienced a slight stinging sensation but that didn’t bother me too much because I just figured it was working. Right before I went to bed, I applied the clear gel to my blemish again. Now, I wasn’t expecting any miracles or anything, but I was expecting at least something. The next morning when I checked my face I hoped to see some change, but there wasn’t any. I figured that I’d just have to use the gel some more. So I took it with me to work and applied it every so often when I got the chance.
After three days of doing this, I still couldn’t actually see a change in the blemish. At that point, I got a little frustrated and stopped using it. The blemish ended up clearing up on its own a few days later. Being the type of person to give things a second chance, the next time I had blemish issues I decided to use it again. This time I was a little more faithful about washing the area before I applied it. I didn’t do that last time when I used it at work. Since I don’t wear make-up, I didn’t really think it was going to be a problem. However, after a few days of use, I still didn’t see a difference and once again, the blemished cleared up on its own.
Clean & Clear Invisible Blemish Treatment comes in a small, clear, .75 fl. oz. (22ml) bottle with a purple cap. The gel is also clear and has a slight smell that’s kind of like rubbing alcohol. The active ingredient is salicylic acid (2.0%). Salicylic acid is a major ingredient in fighting pimples and is usually seen in products like astringent and cleansing pads. Though it does fight blemishes, salicylic can also dry out your skin, especially if you have sensitive or already dry skin. The Invisible Blemish Treatment only dried out the skin around my blemishes if I used it several times during the day. I’m sure the slight stinging sensation I felt with the use of the product was due the salicylic acid as well. The other ingredient that is listed on the bottle is SD Alcohol 40-B (28%).
The bottle states that the Invisible Blemish Treatment is salicylic acid acne mediation. However, it is obviously too mild to work on my sensitive, combination skin. Here I had been worried that it might actually be too strong. Another problem with it is that it can form a kind of shiny ‘skin’ over the area it was applied. The skin will then become flaky or peel along the edges of the application. The product states that it’s invisible so it can be worn under make-up. I’m not quite sure how that would work with this shiny skin because it seems to me that the skin would be noticeable even with make-up. I haven’t actually tested that so I can’t tell you.
The Clean & Clear Invisible Blemish Treatment was a bit of a let down. It really didn’t work for me as I had hoped. Maybe I just have some tough blemishes. Since this Blemish Treatment didn’t do its job, I can’t honestly recommend it. This is not to say that the product won’t work for you, but if you are already used to stronger products, I probably would not bother giving this a try.
