| Mininut's Full Review: ClearPlan Ovulation Test |
Yes you heard it here first; MiniNut is trying to have another baby. I have never had the easiest luck getting pregnant. It took us 3 years to conceive in 1993 and we lost the triplets due to a miscarriage in June of that year. In 1999 we were shocked to find out that we were actually pregnant with out trying and after Doctors had told us that we had no chance of conceiving. Fast forward to now 2 years later: After trying to get pregnant for a year with no luck we started checking out Ovulations tests. I read reviews on Epinions and asked around and checked with our OB and then went out and bought three different types of tests. The Clear Plan Easy is the latest one that we have tried.
About the Clear Plan Easy Test
The first thing you will notice abut this test is the large “99% accurate” that is printed on the front of the box. That alone is enough to get your attention turned to that red box. When you open your test pack you will find 5 one-step ovulation tests and 1 clear blue easy pregnancy test. You will also find a leaflet that answers your questions about testing, how to read the test and how to determine when you may ovulate. You will also find instructions on how to use the pregnancy test and a small brochure on having a baby along with a $5.00 coupon for any Clear Plan or Clear Blue product. Each of the 5 test sticks is small and wrapped in white foil. When opened you will see what appears to be a small white pen. This test has a removable lid when you remove the lid you will see the absorbent tip on one end and on the other is a thumb grip for easier holding. In the center of the test is a small result window.
How to use the test
Testing with this test is so easy and simple. The CPE test says you can test any time of day instead of first morning or mid afternoon so you have the convenience of not being on a strict schedule and that is a huge plus for me. Ok open up the foil package and take out your test. Remove the cap and with the tip of the test pointing downwards you hold the absorbent tip in your urine stream for 5 seconds only and they stress that you do it for ONLY 5 seconds. (to much or not enough urine can mess up the test). You can also collect urine in a clean container and submerse the tip in the urine for 20 seconds. Remove the tip from the urine stream and keep the test pointing down. You can put the cap back on if you wish but you don’t have to. If you have a blue line in the round control window then the test is functioning correctly. After 3 minutes you can read your test.
Reading your test
Ok here is the confusing part. No matter what type of test I have used, I get the same confusion. Is that line to dark? to light? Are they the same color? And because every ovulation test is totally different I suggest that you read your instructions carefully before you start. Ok look at your result window and you will see 2 lines. The line closest to the thumb grip is the reference line and the line closest to the absorbent tip is the surge line. Your “surge” indicates the level of LH in your urine. Ok compare the Surge line and the Reference line. If the Surge line is lighter than the reference line then you have Not begun your surge and you need to continue testing the next day. If your Surge line is similar to or darker than your reference line then you have detected your surge and you should start ovulating within the next 24 to 36 hours. Your most fertile days are the 2 following your positive surge result. If you make love anytime within the next 48 hours after your surge you have a better chance of conceiving. Sounds easy right?
Basic information
Well it does sound simple and then you have to read the test. Now let me say that the Clear Plan easy test is the easiest of any that I have ever read. The screen does not stay pink like the Ovu-Quick test and the lines are darker than the First Response test. So all in all it is simple to read. The lines on the test can fool you as well because it is hard determining if the surge line is darker or lighter. It depends on what room in the house you are in. In our bathroom the line appears to be lighter but walk into the living room with it and it looks lighter. If you are not sure when to start testing just wait 17 days before you expect your cycle to being and then test. Please note that just because you have a regular cycle on your regular time does not necessarily mean that you have or will ovulate. I like the fact that you can test at anytime of day with this test but you should test at around the same time everyday and you should not have urinated for at least 4 hours before taking the test. I prefer early mornings but you can test whenever you are ready. If for some reason you have to store your urine, do not leave it out for more than an hour. You will need to refrigerate it but don’t freeze it. You can get misleading results with this test if you are pregnant, just had a baby, reached menopause or if you are taking a fertility pill. This test is effective for us and we are using Clomid but you will need to check with your Doctor. Some Doctors prefer that you use a test from their office.
Final Facts
As I have said before, there are numerous tests and each one is different so you will need to check you directions carefully (the directions come in English and Spanish). Some tests require that they be read between 3 and 5 minutes only, any readings pass 5 minutes are invalid. Some tests require morning urine and some have no limit, while others suggest between 8 a.m. and 10 p.m. If you need help with your test or any questions you can reach the Help Line at 1-800-321-3279 Monday – Friday 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. ET. You can also check their website at http://www.clearplan.com the website not only contains information for couples trying to become pregnant but they also offer information for families and Specialist and Doctors.
In Closing
This test did read when I was ovulating but we didn’t have success with getting pregnant. I ovulated later in my cycle than predicted so I had to have 2 packages of these tests to determine when I would ovulate. This is a good test and it is so much easier to read than the other tests I have used. I currently on Ovu-Quick, which is recommended by my Doctor, and I wish it were as easy to read as the Clear Plan. The test runs about $25.00 but comes with a free pregnancy test, which is a $10.00 value and a $5.00 coupon so it is a really good deal. I will recommend this test to other women as well as the Clear Plan Easy Pregnancy test that comes 3 to a package instead of 2.
