A Clear Solution -- with this Acrylic Telephone Stand
Written: Dec 08 '07
Pros:adds vertical space to a table, see-through acrylic, sturdy, durable
Cons:slanted surface might pose some problems
The Bottom Line: A cost-effective way to gain tabletop space.
I needed to gain space on a table that served as a telephone table. When I saw the Clear Acrylic Telephone Desk Stand Organizer, I suspected this would solve my dilemma.
Description
This clear acrylic telephone stand measures 11 1/2" wide x 11 1/2" deep x 4 1/2" high. It is formed from one piece of acrylic. It consists of the table top and a U-shaped piece on the right side. The U-shaped piece is divided into two sections. One has four sides to it, while the other section is open at the front.
This organizer is designed to fit all phone sizes. The table surface is slightly slanted, higher at the back than the front. The back of the table is 4 1/2" high, and the front is 3 1/2" high. Two small acrylic "feet" on each of the sides lift the organizer a bit from the table surface.
My Experiences
I have owned this organizer for a long time. It sits on a small bedside table that is woefully short of table surface. I wanted the table to hold more than just a phone, and this telephone stand answered the problem. The stand has a lip along the front so that items do not slide off.
Currently the top of the stand is holding a digital phone with a small footprint, an alarm clock, bottle of water and a knick-knack. Beneath the raised table top are a variety of magazines and books. A great thing about a clear stand is that I can easily see everything beneath the flat top surface.
The U-shaped area along the right of the organizer offers an area for me to keep pens and pencils. They don't fall over since the organizer has two compartments along the side. I keep the writing instruments in the compartment with four sides (it sits at the back). The rest of the U-shaped area is filled with an assortment of bookmarks, Post-It Notes and a ruler.
I expected this acrylic stand to have a lot of scratches after so many years of use. Granted, I do place flat cardboard coasters beneath items that might scratch the acrylic surface (one of these coasters is beneath the clock and another beneath the phone). Still, the acrylic surface of this organizer is in great condition. It hasn't scraped the top of the wooden beside table either.
It is easy to keep clean, too. A swipe of a cloth keeps it dust-free. If needed, it can be rinsed off in water and hand dried.
If I had to pick one thing to change about this phone stand, it would be to make the table top flat instead of slanted. I find that taller items want to slide down the slant. The lip catches things so that they don't fall off (unless items are top heavy). It would be much better for me if the surface was an even height.
Purchasing
This phone stand was purchased at a local office supply store. I remember that it was free after a rebate. I see that it now sells for about $15.00.
Summary
I needed to increase the space on a bedside table, and this Clear Acrylic Telephone Desk Stand Organizer allowed my space to go vertical. It does the job and has lasted for years.
I hope you found this review useful.
