| MumMumMum's Full Review: Clear Away Wart Remover System |
As I stated in Part 1 of this opinion, my son was suffering from warts when he was 7 years old. We tried the Dr Scholl’s Clear Away One Step Wart Remover System for Kids but were not satisfied with the product (see http://my98babies.epinions.com/well-review-773D-26FE0461-3A3CFB93-prod2). As a result we decided to try Scholl Clear Away Wart Remover System.
What is this “Wart Remover System” and what do I get with it?
The package claims this is a dual disk system, effective removal, conceals as it works. You get 18 medicated disks plus 20 cover-up disks. The medicated disks are approximately the size of a pencil eraser, so if you have a large wart I do not know how effective the disks would be. My son’s warts were covered quite nicely by these disks. The cover-up disks are bandaids, strong and durable. Not the papery ones you get with the Kids System. They’re approximately one inch long and oval in shape. The medicinal ingredient is Salicylic Acid 40% w/w in a rubber based vehicle.
The directions indicate that you are to wash the affected area and soak for 5 minutes. Remove loosened tissue with a wet washcloth. Do not rub excessively to cause bleeding, and dry thoroughly. Apply the medicated disk to the wart-beige side up. The dark brown area is the medicated area. Avoid applying the disk to healthy skin by carefully trimming the disk, if necessary to fit the size of the wart. The medication in the disks penetrates the wart and loosens the skin for easy removal. Each disk provides continuous medication for 48 hours. Apply the self-adhesive cover up disk directly over the medicated disk and wart. This cover-up disk will protect and conceal the entire treatment area. Repeat this treatment procedure every 48 hours. Some warts can be removed in a matter of days, but others can take longer. During the treatment process the wart may turn white. This is part of the normal healing/removal process. If no improvement is noted, consult a physician.
Who should use this product?
Well, someone with warts, obviously! But, seriously, if you are unsure as to if it is a wart or not, here is some information regarding common warts.
Most warts appear on fingers, hands and feet, but they can also appear on other parts of the body. They can be distinguished by its rough, raised, cauliflower-like surface, unlike a mole or a blemish. Untreated warts can spread because they are caused by an infectious virus. If left untreated one wart can cause more warts, or it can transmit the virus to another person. If you are still unsure, please consult with your doctor.
Who shouldn’t use this product?
There is a warning on the information sheet that comes with this product that you should not use this product if you are a diabetic, or if you have poor blood circulation. You also should not use this product on irritated skin, on any area that is infected or reddened, and it is for external use only! You should not use this product on moles, birthmarks, warts with hair growing from them, genital warts or warts on the face or mucous membranes.
What did we think of this product? Would we recommend it?
I would highly recommend this product. The medicated disks were just the right size for my son’s warts, and the cover-up disks stayed where they were supposed to as did the medicated disks. The warts turned white, and each time we washed and soaked my son’s hand we saw a noticeable difference in the size of the wart. Within a week all of his warts were gone, and my son was a happy camper again! This is a highly effective product, less expensive than the Kid’s System, and much more value for your money! For a lower price you get 18 disks as opposed to the Kid’s System’s 12 medicated strips. It stays put, it works, and that’s what you need! My son has been wart free for two years now, and he is very happy about it.
Please note: As with any medicine you should keep this product our of reach of children. In case of accidental ingestion seek professional assistance or contact a Poison Control Centre immediately!
