| twenty3skidoo's Full Review: Clearasil Daily Face Wash Sensitive Skin |
My name is Kori and I am a beautyholic.
Okay, so maybe that's a bit dramatic, but in my never-ending quest to find the ultimate beauty products, I do find myself almost constantly changing shampoos, moisturizers and makeup in order to find something that will magically make me gorgeous. No such luck, (at least so far!) but the one area of my skin care regimen that is exempt from my serial product-hopping is my face wash. I have used this stuff since high school. I am now, and will probably always be, a Clearasil Daily Face Wash girl. It's my one and only!
1. What is it?
This is a foaming face wash made for daily use by people with oily or acne-prone skin. It comes in a blue flip-top tube that stands on its lid, making it easy to get every last little bit out of the package. The only size that they make this in that I know of is the 6.5-ounce package, which is available at Wal-Mart for about $3.87.
The face wash itself is white, pearly and light, with the texture and weight of whipped butter. When you squeeze a dime-sized amount in your hand and add water, it will lather into a rich foam. The scent is fresh and clean and pleasant, and the formula is gentle enough for even my sensitive skin.
2. How do you use it?
You squeeze a dime-size amount into your hand in the shower or at the sink and add water, working it into a lather in your hands. Then you apply this lather to your face and massage for about 30 seconds, adding more water if necessary. Rinse thoroughly.
I must emphasize the importance of following the package's directions on this one! If you don't work it into a lather first, you may end up wasting some of it, thinking you need more than you really do. In order to get maximum cleansing benefits from this, the 30-second rule is also very important. If you use it for less than that, your makeup will not come off very well and you may still feel that you have a bit of an oily residue on your face. Follow the directions!
3. Does it work?
I have very extremely oily skin. While this does not keep me completely breakout-free, it does minimize my breakouts, particularly when I remember to use it at night before going to bed. I actually wash my face with this 3 times a day. I wash it twice in the shower, and once before bed. Even with all of this use, I have found that it does not cause any redness or irritation on my skin. It does not dry my skin out like soap, and it removes that greasy layer of gunk better than any other face washes I have tried (although it's been a while since I've tried another one since this one works so well!)
4. HOW does it work?
This product works at keeping your skin breakout-free in a couple of ways. First, just removing the makeup and oil on your face will help. But this product goes the extra mile... It contains triclosan, an antibacterial agent that is gentle on skin but kills the germs that cause acne, so pimples get a double whammy with this face wash!
5. Why buy this instead of others?
I am extremely cheap, and all about saving some cash. This stuff costs over a dollar more than the Wal-Mart Equate equivilent. As a result, I have used the Equate version of this product in the past. However, I feel that it is worth it to spring for the real thing on this one due to the packaging. The Equate version actually works just as well on my face, but I have had many problems with the tube. The lids continually break off or become jammed, causing me to have to buy a new bottle prematurely. I finally stopped bothering and started buying the Clearasil again so that I can get the most product for my money.
Each package claims to contain 100 uses, and I think this is about right. I have to buy a new one about once a month. Since I wash my face 3 times a day, that's about 90 uses I get out of it (and I use more than the conventional dime-sized amount!) Compared to the prices I have seen on other face washes, $3.87 a month for this one is nothing.
5. What doesn't it do?
This is a pretty bare-bones product. It will not prevent aging, it does not exfoliate, and it does not tighten or tone skin. It is not a miracle product. But in my experience, even the so-called "miracle products" are rarely miraculous. This face wash may not have magical powers, but it will get your face clean. It leaves no residue, and if you use a wash-cloth to rinse it off, that's really all the exfoliating you will need.
6. In a nutshell...
This is a good face wash for teenagers and adults with oily or sensitive skin. It will keep your skin oil-free without the harshness of soap, and it's much cheaper than many other acne-fighting options out there. I use this, my sister uses this, and actually my mother does too! We all love it for keeping our grease-pit faces as grease-free as possible. If you have oily skin and no delusional great expectations, this product is right up your alley. Give it a shot. It won't hurt your wallet much, and your face will probably thank you!
