| BLM500's Full Review: Clearasil Vanishing Cream |
With a teenage son and myself having occasional acne flare- ups, I went to the nearest drug store to find a zit zapper. It'd been a long time since I perused the skin cleansing product aisle. Wow, has it grown! After about an hour of experiencing the dilemma of which product to pick, I decided on a name I used to know and trust-- one that's been around, it seems, forever-- Clearasil. I chose Clearasil Maximum Strength Vanishing Cream. Sound like magic? I wish, but no such luck for me or my son.
Like many other products, in the beginning it seems like it's going to be the miracle that changes your skin forever, making you pimple free, without redness, dryness, or soreness. Instead, for us it seemed to be working at first, only to irritate the problem area more than before.
This white cream has a slight medicinal smell and goes on easy, blending into the skin with your finger tips. The directions say to work your way up to using it three times a day on clean skin, but our skin couldn't tolerate it. I've determined that we must be sensitive to the 10 % Benzoyl Peroxide in it, as it seemed to irritate the pimple and the surrounding skin, swelling it and making it very dry. It didn't seem to be helping to clear up anything.
I decided washing my face several times a day and hot packing the affected area was much more useful in combating the mean old zit.
Also, when using Clearasil Maximum Strength Vanishing Cream, one should be careful to wash his/ her hands before touching towels, clothes, rugs, etc., because even the smallest bit of residue of Clearasil on a fabric will bleach the color out of the item. Trust me, I have carpeting and clothing with white spots to prove the latter.
For other ingredients in this product, the manufacturer, Procter and Gamble, offers a toll free # on the side of the tube for consumer questions. It is 1-800-981-1841.
As for it being a great product, I think it depends on your own skin's reaction to it. At $5 to $6 in price, it is right in line with other creams and skin lotions claiming to clear the skin. For us it's back to the drug store to find something that might help.
