I'm in love with garden flags and after having a flag holder for about a year now, have quite a collection of flags. For my birthday last year I got the Cleveland Browns Garden Flag. I'm not a huge sports fan, but I do like to support Cleveland sports. We live about 45 minutes from the Pennsylvania border, and it irritates me that so many people in this area area are Pittsburgh sports fans. You live in OHIO, people! In this house, we only support Cleveland sports.
Product Details:
The Cleveland Browns Garden Flag is one of several garden flags that are officially licensed by the NFL and by the Cleveland Browns. It has a dark brown (although it looks black in the picture here on Epinions) background with orange, gray and black colors as well.
This flag measures 11" wide and 15" long. It is made of 100% polyester.
My Experience:
As I stated earlier, I'm not a huge sports fan. I don't mind sitting and watching the Cleveland Indians, Browns or Cavaliers play for an hour or so, but I don't like to sit through entire games and I definitely don't like to go and see them in person. But on Sundays during football season, I do like to put out my Cleveland Browns Garden Flag just to be supportive. My boyfriend is a HUGE Browns fan, so he loves this flag.
This flag is a lot like the other garden flags I have. It's made of a silky-ish, polyester material that sort of reminds me of a thicker nylon material. It moves freely on the garden flag holder in the wind and doesn't have a stiff feel like a lot of flags do. It also doesn't make a loud noise when the wind whips it around. The slot at the top is sewn well and it glides onto the garden flag stand quickly and easily. In fact, the entire flag is sewn well and I haven't noticed any issues with stitching.
The design on the flag is a nice one. It has a dark brown background with a wide, orange stripe across the entire flag, which looks like a big paintbrush stroke. Over the paintbrush stroke is the official Cleveland Browns logo, which is an orange helmet. I have always thought this was the dumbest logo but then I realized that there aren't a lot of choices when your team's name is "Browns" - it's not like your team is named after something tangible like an animal...so the helmet, while unimaginative, is probably a decent choice, although some argue that the logo and mascot should be a dog, after the Cleveland Browns' Dawg Pound, which is a group of bleacher seats in the Cleveland Browns Stadium where extremely rabid fans sit. So for now, the official logo is an orange helmet, like it or not. Underneath the paintbrush stroke and helmet is the word "Browns" in a casual, somewhat rough, cursive font in orange, outlined in white. The entire flag has a sporty, festive, casual feel that I like.
I put this flag out on Sundays and leave it out through Monday during football season. I haven't had a problem with it snagging or wrinkling at all. I came across it a couple of days ago in my flag drawer (yes, I have a flag drawer in an old dresser in the basement) and it had been sitting in there for several months now, and it's not wrinkled at all. I have not had to wash this flag yet, as it didn't get dirty at all. November, December and January can be dirty months here in Northeast Ohio with mud, snow and salt, but for some reason this flag never held onto any dirt. I think that the rain and snow we got probably washed away any dirt that got on it. But I would bet that it would wash up nicely on my washer's gentle cycle with some mild detergent. I would not put this flag in the dryer; I would let it air dry.
As for fading, this flag hasn't really been outside for long periods of time in the bright summer sunshine, so it hasn't had a lot of opportunity for the colors to fade. It is showing no signs of fading at this point.
Overall, I'm glad we have the Cleveland Browns Garden Flag. It's a nice addition to my garden flag collection and is good quality. I would recommend this as a gift for any Browns fan.
Price and Purchasing Information:
Our Cleveland Browns Garden Flag was a gift, but it can probably be purchased at some local flag stores or garden centers. Online, it can be purchased at ChampionsOnDisplay for about $12.
