| mtan's Full Review: Cleveland Golf 588 Tour Action Wedge |
I really like Cleveland wedges. There is a reason why Cleveland is the "#1 wedge is golf". They make a variety of different wedges to suit any type of player. The 588 Chrome Tour Action Wedge, which is just one their designs, comes in 12 different models with different lofts, lies, lengths and bounce. I have four Cleveland wedges, and the 588 is one of them.
The 588 is a very nice wedge. It has a very classic design and feels good throughout the swing. Cleveland promotes this club as a very durable wedge, since it has a bright chrome finish that protects the club better than some of Cleveland's other wedges. However, after playing the club for the past year, it is this chrome finish that I do not like. In very bright sunny conditions, it has a tendency to reflect the sun back to your eyes, which can be a little distracting. Further, it is really not as durable as the manufacturer claims. Some of the chrome on the leading edge of my 588 has chipped off and has begun to rust. I don't believe that this effects the performance of the wedge, but it certainly does not look very appealing.
My other three wedges are Cleveland RTG wedges. They have a softer feel and are unchromed which reduces or eliminates glare. And if you like increased spin on your wedge shots, these clubs perform as advertised. If I were to recommend a wedge, a would choose the RTG over the 588.
