Pros:Cute and hilarious.
Cons:No educational gain here.
The Bottom Line: It's a great addition to your young one's library. It's hilarious and fun to read together.

We got this soft cover book when we bought a box of Cheerios some time ago. It is hilarious and my daughter and I both giggle every time we read this.

Click, Clack, Moo is about dissatisfied cows that found a typewriter in the barn and continue to write letters explaining their reasons for being unhappy to poor Farmer Brown.

All day long all Farmer Brown hears is click, clack, moo, click, clack, moo, clickety, clack, moo of the cows typing on the typewriter. His cows love to type since they found the old typewriter.

Then, poor Farmer Brown gets the shock of his life when one morning he finds a typewritten note tacked to the wall in the barn. The cows claim that the barn is very cold at night and they request electric blankets. It is signed- The Cows.

Farmer Brown said no way. Then the cows post a sign saying that they are on strike, there will be no milk today. He is furious, and still he hears the cows typing away, click, clack, moo.

The next morning Farmer Brown gets another note claiming that the hens also get cold at night and need electric blankets. Then the hens go on strike and post a sign saying that there are no eggs and no milk.

Farmer Brown heads back to his house and types the hens and cows his own letter explaining that this is a farm and expects them to produce milk and eggs and that there will be no electric blankets.

Luckily, Duck is a neutral party and he tries to figure all this out.

The next morning Farmer Brown gets a bill delivered typed message from Duck saying that they will give the typewriter back in exchange for electric blankets.

They all call a truce and the cows and hens get their electric blanket and Farmer Brown waits patiently to get the typewriter back.

Farmer Brown never gets his typewriter back and now the ducks type him a letter explaining that they want a diving board in their boring pond.

Click, clack, quack. Click, clack, quack. Clickety clack, QUACK!

Click, Clack, Moo is written by Doreen Cronin and illustrated by Betsy Lewin. They also teamed up to write and illustrate Giggle, Giggle, Quack, a great companion to Click, Clack, Moo . This is actually Doreen Cronin’s first picture book being an attorney.

Betsy Lewin used a black watercolor type paint to illustrate the book. The pictures are somewhat abstract, in that they have the basic shape of the cow, hen, or person, but the figures almost look sloppy. I believe to a child, that does not make any difference. They just know it’s a cow or a hen or a farmer. The pictures are not that colorful either. I don’t believe the pictures are bright enough.

But, my four year old loves the story because she never heard of a cow or a duck who could type and it’s just such a ridiculously funny story.

I don’t see that she has learned any valuable lessons really, except how to bargain. I normally like a story that teaches something, but I haven’t been able to find anything to learn in this short book of 32 pages.

The language is not complicated, although there are some words for the older set thrown in like ultimatum and neutral.

Click, Clack, Moo is recommended for children ages three through seven.
