Pros: Nice texture, okay at evening out skin tone, light on skin, several shades, SPF
Cons: Only the barest of coverage, price, packaging
The Bottom Line: For those that have fairly unblemished skin, this could be a Godsend. For the rest of us, coverage is a bit too low.

| johelian's Full Review: Clinique Almost Makeup SPF 15 |
I once went out with my mum to lunch at a local Thai restaurant, and while we were talking I couldnt help but notice that her makeup was flawless. Feeling a little jealous that my own skin wasnt up to much, I asked her what she used. "The Clinique compact". was the answer. Since then, I have been a bit obsessed with Clinique products, picking from their huge range of lipsticks (Tenderheart in the Different range for me), blushes (Smouldering Plum or Sunset Glow depending on what Im wearing), eye makeup (far too many to recall) and their 3-Step facial cleansing routine. However, as much as I am an avocate for their products, I have never been able to find any of their foundations to be a true match for my skin. Dont get me wrong; I love the texture of their foundations (Superbalanced is particularly lovely), but none of them seem to be tailored to a yellow asian skintone with red cheeks - although the counter girls have had a good try! After being totally disheartened by the masklike effect I was getting from the heavier-coverage items, someone suggested that I try Almost Makeup. I do think that its probably the best in the range that I have tried for my skin.
Almost Makeup is what it says on the tin - if you thought along the lines of a tinted moisturiser, you certainly wouldnt be far off the mark. Rather than cover any imperfections up like most foundations do, Almost adjusts to your skin tone and evens it up - albeit just barely. For this reason, anyone that needs anything but very light, sheer coverage is likely to need something heavier. Since I have varying red patches on my cheeks, I need to even them up with a touch of colour corrector before use - otherwise, the red areas stand out just as obviously through the makeup.
Of course, the benefit to the sheerness of this makeup is that it feels very light on the skin. It does have a slightly greasy feel to it though in spite of the fact that it is supposed to be oil-free, which makes the skin appear a little oily (or "dewy" as Im sure they would like you to believe) - something I imagine wont be to everyones taste. However, because it is a moisturising makeup, its great for anyone with dry skin. I have combination dry skin, and this has never dried out my skin before, and I have never had issues with it caking in the lines on my face. It also has an SPF, which is always handy. Almost Makeup comes in 4 shades; as its so sheer and blendable, just choosing the one which is the closest will be fine - it doesnt have to be a precise match, like the heavier foundations (though obviously be careful if the closest match is still a mile away from your actual skin tone!) It has no real scent to it.
With regards to other issues I had with this product, Im not massively keen on the packaging. It comes in a plastic squeezy tube in the classic Clinique green and silver, and product can get smeared around the top of the top and the cap causing a bit of a mess. A pump bottle might have been preferential, though might push the price up even more - which brings me to point two: the price. Since this is really, in essence, a marginally stronger-toned tinted moisturiser, I feel a little reluctant to pay the full £18 for it.
All in all, I quite like this product; the texture is nice, and the coverage is natural - but only for those with naturally blemish-free skin in the first place. It can work well evening out slight imperfections in skin tone, but most people will probably want a bit more coverage than this offers. This is really one that I would reserve for days when my skin is actually looking pretty good, as its quick and easy to apply and feels good - it just doesnt cut it for my bad skin days.
