Pros: Excellent, Lightweight Coverage
Cons: Expense, a mere seven shades with little suitable for women of color
I have been using Clinique?s Balanced Makeup Base for over a year now, changing my foundation as winter approached primarily due to the drying effects of the Midwest climate in conjunction with a heavier Revlon formula I'd been using prior. There was yet another simple factor in my change of makeup base, natural aging and the appearance of fine lines upon my face. I desired a lighter formulation that would give me natural, complete coverage without the dryness or accentuation of these telltale lines.
? Provides a moist natural finish.
? Allergy tested. 100% fragrance free.
? Lightweight formula which feels comfortable on skin.
? Moisturizes while evening skin tone and texture.
The Clinique Balanced Makeup Base formula provides those with normal skin with a tendency toward dryness an exceptionally lightweight and natural matte finish upon application. Smooth and silken in texture, one can achieve either a light to moderate coverage easily, you control how little or how much depending on your personal blending technique and individual coverage preference. I tend toward a lighter, matte finish with the use of an applicator sponge and complimentary facial powder for general daytime application.
I apply my makeup in the morning and touch-up with powder only if necessary throughout the day?s activities. Occasionally during the more temperate months of the year I may notice a slight shine upon my nose as this base formula is not intended to control natural facial oils and indeed does contain ingredients to combat dryness by incorporating various moisturizing emollients and humectants. However, at such times just an additional touch of powder is all I need to remedy it without fail.
Longwearing and gentle enough for sensitive skin, I was hooked instantly on the Clinique?s Balanced Makeup Base formula. Not only did I wear it throughout that past winter with excellent results, I continue to purchase this particular base today.
A bit more expensive than I would like, yet worth it in regards to the non-drying and natural looking, effective coverage I receive while using this foundation. Not once have I experienced creasing with extended wear either, which a definite plus for those seeking a base makeup that provides complete coverage which will not accentuate facial lines or crease about one?s laugh lines or dimples.
The emollient (oil) ingredients of this foundation formulation assures one of excellent movement, making blending a simple pleasure and allowing eyeshadow and blush products to also blend effortlessly and evenly over one's face. Also, as a water-based formula, the Balanced Makeup Base is appropriate for wearing either with or without additional moisturizer, SPF or not depending on preference and specific needs, for those with dryer skin. Mistake? Buff it away with the touch of an applicator sponge, easy at that.
There are currently seven shades available for a menagerie of complexions: Cream Chamois, Creamy Peach, Fair, Honeyed Beige, Porcelain Beige, Warmer and Ivory.
A one fluid ounce glass bottle of this makeup base formula will set consumers back $15.50 and generally lasts me a couple of months with fairly regular usage.
This product can be purchased at a variety of department stores as well as online retailers Gloss.com and Clinique.com
