justcuriouss's Full Review: Clinique Clarifying Lotion 2 13.5 oz
With the money from my first paycheck as a college graduate, I decided to invest in wrinkle prevention and buy Clinique's Superdefense Moisturizing Cream, and with it recieved a sample of the 3-step system including the clarifying lotion #2. I have comination skin; dry on the cheeks, blackheads on the nose and oily with common breakouts on my chin; I was looking for a product that wouldn't clog my pores, would last the day, and prevent wrinkles. I started using the 3 step system in hopes to battle my acne in addition to this. I had heard good things about the clarifying lotion because my (no-frills) boyfriend had mentioned he used it in highschool when he had acne and it worked well for him. The Clinique associate told me I should try #2 as my skin is combination and has the tendency to burn before I tan.
I used the clarifying lotion after the mild facial soap. As I moistened my cotton ball with the "lotion," I got a whiff of what smelled like pure alcohol, and braced myself for the worst. At first it stung my pores, however it soon faded to a zesty tingling sensation not unlike carmex on your lips. The cotton ball was dirty with leftover makeup and even lint from my face towel -- and at that moment I was intrigued. My face felt a little dry, but after applying the superdefense moisturizing lotion (day) or dramatically different moisturizing lotion (night), my skin still felt tingly and clean, along with moisturized.
I've been using this product for a couple of weeks now, and I've noted that many of my blackheads have dissapeared, especially on my nose. I have experienced some dry skin, but this was on my blackhead-infesed nose, where I was using the clarifying lotion without moisturizer in high hopes to clear it up faster. This quickly subsided when I started apply moisturizer again. As for my chin, which is the oiliest and most break-out prone area of my face, I've noticed that dormant zits -- you know, the headless nasty "bumps" that were under my skin for months at a time -- came to a head very quickly after I started using this lotion. Some say this lotion causes breakouts because it has acetone in it and this can cause reactions, but I believe (in my case) the lotion has brought deep blemishes to the surface of the skin. I haven't noticed any new blemishes, only old ones that have come to a head and quickly disappeared. My face also feels less oily in my problem areas. The lotion still tingles each time I use it, and after using the 3 step system, I've noticed my skin is quite radiant. I took a picture of my skin with no makeup while my boyfriend and I were carving pumpkins, and I was amazed at how clear and even my skin tone was -- it looked like I was wearing foundation! I actually put those pictures on facebook for the world to see, if that says anything.
I just recently finished my sample bottle and I will be purchasing this product again. It appears to prevents new blemishes, dries out older ones, removes debris off my skin that the facial soap cannot, and makes my skin feel so clean and refreshed. My only complaints are that this product is comparatively pricey compared to other toners, and the bottle is annoying -- I hope they have the dispenser bottle rather than the cap you have to remove and pour onto the cotton ball!
