| leafsbabe01's Full Review: Clinique Continuous Coverage |
For as long as I can remember, I've had trouble skin. Suffered from acne as a teen that left some minor scarring. Even now in my mid 20's I still break out occasionally so my skin is far from perfect... add overall dry skin with the occasional oily spot and that about wraps it up.
I'm addicted to new foundations. Sort of like how some women feel the need to have a million different pairs of shoes. My thing is definitely make up.
Years ago, in my search for a foundation that was HEAVY and not oil reducing, or anti aging... I turned to Clinique. Clinique was always the best for foundations in my experience at that time.
The sales lady was very helpful and understanding as she pointed out the foundation she was wearing. She had absolutely flawless skin, a beautiful complexion. Or so it seemed.
She pulled out the sample colors of Clinique's Continuous Coverage.
What Clinique Says
Lasting camouflage for every skin. Opaque cover for flaws, birthmarks, scars. Use as concealer or full-face makeup. Physical sunscreen.
Continuous Coverage is Clinique's version of the ever so population Dermablend, which is famous for covering everything including tattoos.
Clinique's Continuous coverage is a VERY thick formula that takes some getting used to. In fact, as she pointed out, you have to rub the foundation in the container to warm it up to get it to even spread easily on your face.
However, it is a lot lighter than dermablend, and much more natural looking.
Continuous Coverage contains SPF 15 for sun protection as well.
How to Use:
Apply after 3-Step Skin Care System. Start at center of face and blend outward for a natural look. Blend well along jawline. Remove with makeup solvent.
Now I didn't use the 3 step system, but I did use a lot of moisturizer first, a little section at a time... applied the foundation in sections.
Once I finished, flawless, perfect skin.
Of course, if you're looking for a light, barely there foundation, this isn't for you. If you're expecting a natural look, this isn't it either. While I didn't look
like I was wearing a TON of make up, you could definitely tell I had foundation on.
Clinique doesn't market this solely as a foundation, but claims it can be used either as a concealer or as a full face foundation. Indeed it does work well as a concealer as well, this stuff really does cover most blemishes, scars, you name it.
On the down side, the color selection is quite limited with only 4 shades available:
* CREAMY GLOW
* IVORY GLOW
* NATURAL HONEY GLOW
* PORCELIAN GLOW
Creamy glow is the lightest, and Porcelian Glow being the darkest.
Unfortunately all of these shades appear to be for warm skin tones, they have a lot of yellow tones in them. If you're warm toned, you're in luck. But if like me you're a cool tones gal, you're out of luck here.
I have a cool-neutral skin tone. I can wear either cool, or neutral shades, but warm ones do not suit me at all.
While the shade creamy glow wasn't excessively warm, and it did indeed look good on me, it being so great coverage was pretty much the only reason for that.
The shade was also a little to dark for me. Not to the point of being noticeable, but still, a touch too dark.
My skin tone is very light, although not as light as some. I usually wear the 2nd lightest shade. The shades of Continuous Coverage won't cover the very light shades of skin, nor the darkest. A dark tannish color is the darkest.
Ingredients:
water purified, titanium dioxide, mineral oil, talc, propylene glycol, tea-isostearate, isostearic acid, glyceryl sterate, peg-100 stearate, isopropyl lanolate, micro-crystalline cellulose, cellulose gum, algin, magnesium aluminum silicate, tea-stearate, methylparaben, propylparaben, butylparaben. May contain: mica, bismuth oxychloride, iron oxides, ultramarines.
Pricing and Availability
The price is $19.50 for a 1 oz container. The packaging is typical Clinique, a mint green tube. The product is fairly easy to dispense, and I don't find it difficult at all to get the last bits of the foundation out.
If you are lucky enough to find a shade that suits you, it may be hard to grab at the Clinique counters. Despite it's color selection, Continuous Coverage is a very popular foundation. Of course you can always order it through their website at www.clinique.com
Overall
I did happily use this foundation for a long time, but due to Proactiv fading much of my acne scarring, I feel I no longer need that heavy of coverage.
Given the limited cover selection, I would advise that you go in and try these shades out with the Clinique consultant first to make sure there is a color that suits you.
As far as full coverage, there is no foundation better in my opinion. This stuff literally stays on until you take it off.
I would recommend Clinique Continuous Coverage to anyone who has any skin conditions they wish to conceal, or to anyone who just wants a HEAVY foundation that gives a beautiful complexion.
