| jdhauer's Full Review: Clinique Glosswear For Lips: Intense Sparkle |
As a special treat last spring, just to try and make myself feel a little more human, I engaged in some retail therapy. It's not something I often do but I made an exception. After all, it had been a tough month with some severe trials from which I am still struggling to recover.
After visiting my hair stylist to return to a burnished chestnut color instead of the auburn I had been wearing, I needed desperately to visit the Clinique counter for some new lipstick. After all, if you change your hair color, you need to change your makeup.
Now, I've been chestnut before so I had plenty of makeup but the thought of new lipstick is always a pick-me-up, especially when it's Clinique Bonus Time!
Inside my free gift with purchase was a tiny sample of Clinique Glosswear for Lips Intense Sparkle in Lunar Ice. The container itself looks just like the regular sized .2 ounce lip gloss tubes except it's tinier. It has the same soft foam applicator too, just the wand is shorter.
The gloss itself has a nude tint to it but it's filled with silver glitter for the sparkle. To be honest, when I first saw it in the tube, all I could think of were the B-52's. I was very surprised when I tried it on because it actually looks very nice straight on my lips. There really isn't any color to it at all and my natural lip color shows through the sparkles.
Clinique Glosswear for Lips Intense Sparkle in Lunar Ice looks very nice over another lipstick or lip pencil. I've tried it on top of Clinique's Different Lipstick in Glazed Berry and I liked the look enough to wear it out to my husband's company holiday party at the Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center of the Smithsonian Institution.
I didn't find the product to be overly sticky like MAC Lipglass. Not was it tacky like the Mary Kay gloss I've tried. The sparkles don't feel gritty or sharp against my lips, at least until the gloss wears off. Then the glitter that remains on my lips is a little abrasive. It's also hard as the dickens to remove all the sparkles from my lips!
I found two major drawbacks to Clinique Glosswear for Lips Intense Sparkle. The first is that this product stinks. It smells like new vinyl. I can't think of any man who would be attracted to that scent, let alone my husband.
The second is that this is a perfect product for a woman much younger than I am. I hate to say this since I am only in my 30's, but I think this product would appeal more to the pre-teen and teenage set than those of us who are a bit more mature. I feel like a grandmother in go-go boots and a micro-mini when I wear this product. It's pretty and I love the look but I'm a bit more conservative with my makeup these days unless it's for a special occasion.
Should you wish to purchase Clinique Glosswear for Lip Intense Sparkle, a full sized tub will set you back $13.50. The product is currently available in Lunar Ice (nude), Sun Burst (tawny), Cosmic Pink (pink), Pink Heaven(pink), Moonberry (violet) and Stellar Plum (violet).
