tldavis36's Full Review: Clinique Moisture Surge Extra Thirsty Skin Relief
I first bought this product in 2002 while taking Accutane, and it was okay, but couldn't really handle the Sahara Desert created by the Accutane. I continued to use it, and then stopped because I thought I could find something better (?!?!).
I recently started using it again, because despite the fact that I took Accutane, I still have slightly oily, acne-prone skin and have resorted to using Retin-A Micro to control it.
Anybody who has ever used Retin-A (in any form) knows that it can make your skin peel and flake. Before Accutane, I could use Retin-A and would never see a flake of skin. Well since Accutane, I've been flaking for about 2 months with no end in sight, so I decided to pull the Moisture Surge Extra Thirsty Skin Relief (hereafter called Moisture Surge)back out and give it another try.
Clinique says:
Allergy Tested. 100% Fragrance Free. Rapid hydration in a refreshing oil-free gel. Replenishes thirsty skin, restoring moisture equilibrium. Active aloe in a high-speed delivery system boosts moisture levels to smooth, soften. Plumps up skin's resistance to fine dry lines. Use whenever, wherever needed, under or over makeup. Or as a 5-minute moisture mask. For all skin types.
This moisturizer comes in 2 sizes. I bought the smaller jar, which is 1.7 oz for $31.00, and I think the larger jar is 4.2 oz. for $42.00.
Moisture surge comes in a clear jar with a silver twist off cap. The product itself is a light pink gel that has a light, pleasant, barely noticeable scent. Once it has absorbed into your skin, you won't smell it anymore. It has a silky texture when rubbed into the skin. At first my skin looks shiny until the gel absorbs, then it takes on a matte finish. Once I massage this into my face, any dryness I had is gone and there are no flakes to be seen. I like the fact that it's oil free and it doesn't make my face shiny. I don't need any assistance in that department!
I usually use this during the day if I know I'm not going out. I just started using it before I apply my Retin-A to see if that will help alleviate some of the flaking. I haven't tried it under my moisturizer with sunscreen because I figured that would be too much for me, but once winter sets in I may have to try it that way also.
I haven't had any breakouts with this moisturizer. The only thing I've noticed, which I attribute to the Retin-A Micro, is that if my face is rubbed roughly during the day (i.e., my dental appointment), I will start peeling in the area that was rubbed--but that's what exfoliants do, right? There's only so much that a moisturizer can do when it's put up against a harsh acne treatment, but this one does very well and I highly recommend it.
