blythiee's Full Review: Clinique Moisture Surge Extra Thirsty Skin Relief
As a person with very sensitive combination skin that is prone to terrible breakouts, I've always been on the lookout for any products that suit my skin really well. I experiment all the time - especially with skin care since nine out of every ten products I try just don't work for me.
I was lucky when I came upon this gem from Clinique! Moisture Surge Extra is brilliant in that it is a water-based gel moisturizer rather than the traditional cream base. Cream moisturizers are everywhere and there are plenty of expensive ones on the market that promote containing various nifty ingredients (grape extract, tomato extract, etc.) in order to raise the price tag. Clinique simplified it all by getting moisture directly from the source: WATER. It's so simple yet it took this long for a company to come up with the concept.
Moisture Surge Extra comes in a tub of 50ml or 75ml. This is nice and convenient because I'm able to see how much product is left so I can ration out my uses each day. I've had the smaller tub since February and since I use it every day I've managed to stretch it out for a year. Nevertheless I picked up the larger tub last week so I'll be prepared when I run out.
The product is a cool, pink-hued gel that is very emmolient, but not at all greasy. I apply this and it literally sinks into my skin without leaving any kind of residue behind. It becomes invisible, but provides enough moisture so that my skin isn't dry or flaky. This is also great on my oily areas because it sinks into the skin and leaves behind a smooth, matte finish. It also contains no pore-clogging ingredients so I don't have to worry about breakouts or blackheads, which is such a nice and refreshing change.
The big downside (and it really is a big one) to this product is the price. While the concept of it relies on simplicity, the cost is astronomical for something that is water-based. It is $56 Canadian for the larger size and $44 for the smaller. Luckily I'm able to stretch this out for quite a long period of time, so I can rationalize it to myself, but if you're someone who goes through moisturizer like air - beware!
