Let me preface this review by saying that I'm not a true makeup maven. Mascara was something I could do without for the longest time because most brands that I tried irritated my eyes and made them itch, so I'd end up pulling eyelashes out over the course of the day. When I finally decided to give mascara another try, my usage was still sparodic. Over the last couple of years, I've pretty much gotten into wearing it most days.
I started off with a Lancome mascara that was okay, but a bit pricey for my needs. After that tube was used up, I made my way to the Clinique counter to see the types of mascara that they had that shouldn't irritate my eyes, since I also wear contacts. The SA suggested the Naturally Glossy mascara and I had finally found a mascara that I could live with. I've used this mascara off and on for the past 6 or 7 years. I've also tried other Clinique mascaras, but this is my favorite by far.
The mascara comes in a long silver tube, and has a nice full brush that doesn't get over-saturated with mascara. When you put it on, you can tell that you've gotten some on your lashes, but it's not clumpy or flaky. It doesn't really extend your lashes or give them volume, but it's just enough to give you noticeable lashes without looking like you dipped them in black paint. I don't like looking like I have on a lot of mascara, and I don't like the spider lashes look. This mascara is great!
I wear contacts and this mascara has never irritated my eyes or flaked. I don't get raccoon eyes, but I only use mascara on my top lashes, so that could be part of it.
This summer I made the mistake of trying some other brands (department store and drugstore) to see if I liked them better or could find something comparable. Everything I tried tended to clump (except maybe the Almay, but I can't remember which formula it was and I still like the Clinique better). I'd end up having to comb and brush to separate the lashes. I wasted a bunch of money because I've gone back to my Naturally Glossy and have vowed to never switch again.
The ingredients are as follows:
water purified, beeswax, carnauba, tea-stearate, pvp, tea-isostearate, acrylates copolymer, peg-20 sorbitan beeswax, glyceryl stearate se, hydroxyethylcellulose, lecithin, pvp/polycarbamyl polyglycol ester, nylon-12, trisodium edta, phenoxyethanol, methylparaben, ethylparaben, propylparaben, butylparaben, [+/-(may contain) carmine (ci 75470), chromium oxide greens (ci 77288) iron oxides (ci 77491, ci77492, ci 77499) mica, titanium dioxide (ci 77891), ultramarines (ci 77007)] [iln5281]
Naturally Glossy mascara comes in Jet Black and Jet Brown.
Clinique products can be purchased in most department stores and online at www.clinique.com and www.gloss.com.
I definitely recommend this mascara for anybody who likes the natural but better look in the mascara they wear. If you like the dramatic look, then this mascara probably isn't for you.
