| baby_pie's Full Review: Clinique Super City Block |
The search for a good facial daily sunscreen is one that seemingly never ends for me. I feel guilty and paranoid if I skip the sunscreen, but I get greasy if I do. So on my life long search I found Clinique Super City Block and decided to give it a try, based on all the rave reviews I've read online.
Clinique Super City Block is sold at Clinique counters in department stores and also carried by specialty stores, like Sephora. It's available in SPF 15, SPF 25 and SPF 40. I bought the SPF 40. It comes in a green tube with a twist off cap. For $16.50 you get 1.4oz/40ml of product.
This product is oil free, allergy tested and fragrance free.
City Block is a light lotion that was thinner than I expected. It's a pale beige color and looks like a tinted moisturizer, however it is not. It applies well, spreads easily and disappears into the skin. I didn't notice any tint to my skin after applying.
Clinique claims: "High-level daily sun protection in a sheer, weightless formula. For all skins, even the most sensitive. Offers SPF 40 protection from suns UVA/UVB rays. Antioxidants help protect against environmental irritants. Wear alone or as an invisible under-makeup primer."
I found that initially I really like this product. And by initially I mean within an hour of applying. My skin felt soft, supple and smooth and the scent was pleasant and mild (sort of sunscreen-ish). I applied my make-up and found that it went on really well over City Block at first.
I thought I was onto a winner and kept inspecting my face. I started noticing after the first couple of hours that my make up was turning blotchy and my face was feeling really greasy. This feeling got worse throughout the day until I couldn't wait to wash my face and get it off! It's a real shame because I really wanted to like this one.
I don't technically have oily skin but there are some products that can bring out the oil production in my face. This appears to be one of them. I suspect City Block would work really well on people with dry skin and it's super-moisturizing. For me though, it wasn't to be.
