kellydeal's Full Review: Clinique Superbalanced Makeup Fair
I’m no good with make-up. And we all know how dolled up those ladies get for their close-ups.
I like to wear it, when I can put it together properly. But I still get confused when I happen to open one of those women’s magazines and I find them debating “smudging” vs. “blending”.
Huh?
That’s why if I find something that works – I practically buy in bulk and that company’s got my money forever. Such is the case with Clinique’s Superbalanced Makeup.
Good for Combination Skin
I don’t wear foundation in the summer time. My freckles come out and it looks ridiculous and cakey if I put any shade of foundation on. But in the winter time skin takes on an uneven tone and the elements of combination skin become more evident. Time for a bit of blending.
Normally if I use any foundation on my skin in the winter time, the dry sections take on a fascinating flakey look that rivals any scaled fish and my pores are magnified to gargantuan proportions. Not only do they tend to frown on these things in the adult film industry, but regular folk seem turned off by this as well.
But Clinique’s Superbalanced Makeup is a very light foundation that works well on combination skin. It claims to add moisture to the dry areas and actually extract oil from the oily places. I am not sure what they did at the lab but it does work. It goes on very evenly on both types of skin. No flaking or pore magnification. No lie.
Clinique’s Superbalanced Makeup has a silky thin texture to it, and you have to be careful not to try too much at once. A little dab (dime size or less for me) spread evenly with your fingers or foam applicator over your chin, cheekbones, forehead and chin will suffice.
The Base Line – and I’m not talking funk
Like I said, it’s a light foundation that doesn’t look painted on or cakey. I remember in the 80’s a lot of girls experimenting with makeup were walking around with what’s called the base line along their jawbone. Their face was 3 shades darker than their neck and it was the most obvious at the jaw line where the proper “blending” was not done.
This is why you let the experts take care of the matching up of the skin tone. Although a lot of them look like the mannequins from the Robert Palmer videos in white lab coats, let the ladies at the counter help you. That’s what they’re there for. Even if you are only there to buy one item so you can get the free gift pack (like me) they’re usually helpful and not too condescending when it comes to imperfect skin.
They’ll be happy to let you know Clinique’s Superbalanced Makeup comes in 18 different shades, so a good match should be fairly easy for many different skin tones. It’ll blend with your natural color rather than covering it up and you won’t look like a waxy zombie freak (unless that’s really what you want, of course).
Bottom line, it looks natural.
Other Fun Stuff
*It’s oil free – supposedly 100% fragrance free (although I do detect a bit of a scent) plus it’s allergy tested so chances of some freakish reaction are supposed to be slim (no worries here).
*Light coverage won’t clog your pores
*Can you say smooth?
*It’s available online, but I suggest if you haven’t already matched yourself up with a particular shade you hit one of the department stores and have one of the mannequins help you instead. If you go to www.clinique .com and enter your zip they’ll let you know where the closest clinique counter is.
*Recommended for anyone looking for basic coverage – even those with dry or oily skin
