I have to begin by explaining that I absolutely love the occasional free gifts you get at department store makeup counters. In fact, I often find myself buying stuff that I don't need just so I can spend the mandatory $15 to get the free gift! Usually, instead of buying a few lipsticks or eyeliners, I will buy a foundation because that has, historically, been the one product I've never been fully satisfied with.
That is exactly how I came to purchase Clinique Superfit Makeup. I like oil-free, and I like moderate coverage. Therefore, Superfit seemed to be the choice for me. Now, don't let my title fool you. Though I wouldn't call Superfit all that super, it's really not a bad foundation. The problems that I have with this makeup are not necessarily problems that will apply to everyone else. Here's the breakdown, as I see it:
Colors
Superfit comes in 10 shades. Personally, I don't think that 10 shades is an adequate selection for all skin tones. I have extremely pale skin, so I went with the lightest shade possible: shell. This is barely light enough to blend in with my skin tone during the summer, when I usually have a little extra color. It's not a perfect match, but it's acceptable. During the winter, though, I just look like I have a mud mask on when I try to wear my Superfit!! In fact, I recently visited the Clinique counter for a consultation, and the lady told me, matter-of-factly, that she didn't think she had anything pale enough for me to wear. Oh well. Fine, I'll only wear Superfit during the summer.
SPF
Oops! There goes my summer foundation! There's no SPF protection in this stuff! I require SPF when I go out during the day, especially during the summer months. Obviously, Clinique does not cater to the needs of fair skintones.
Coverage
The tragic thing about Superfit is that I really love the coverage!!! It's not too heavy, but not too sheer, either. It's a perfect moderate coverage makeup, just like it claims. Sometimes I find it to be a little to cakey to wear during the day out in the sunlight (not that I like to do that without the aforementioned SPF!). Otherwise, it looks great!!! It covers minor imperfections, but still lets your skin shine through. Just what a foundation should do!
Long-lasting
Superfit makeup lasts pretty much all day. I have oily skin so anything I wear is bound to look a little shiny at the end of the day, and Superfit is no exception. I've found foundation that wears a little better over the course of the day (see my other reviews for details on this), but this is definitely one of the better ones I've tried. When I get home from work wearing Superfit Makeup, my skin still looks pretty good. I don't feel the need to immediately wash my face!
Price
While Clinique is one of the cheaper department store brands out there, it's definitely way more expensive than the "drug store brands." This will cost you around $17.
Overall
Because of the color and the SPF factor, I only wear Clinique Superfit Makeup at night, during the summer. I'm not sure that the high price justifies such restrictions!!! I probably would not buy Superfit again, which is a shame because I really like the quality of the coverage. I would, however, definitely recommend this product to anyone with one of the 10 skin tones that this makeup matches!!!
As for the rest of us..... we'll just have to keep on searching!
