marksman's Full Review: Cobra PR4100-2WXVP Two Way Radio
I bought this set at a local retailer, and will be returning them there as soon as I'm done writing this review.
The specs on this set of Cobra hand held GMRS/FRS two-way radios look good (VOX, channel memory, NOAA weather radio, call alert with 10 tones, channel scan, privacy codes), but in practice these radios really let the user down. In regular use, the sound quality can best be described as "poor." Using these radios with the supplied headsets is downright impossible in VOX mode. Yes, I did read the manual, but unless you are shouting into the headset mike, it won't transmit. At this rate, I won't need radios, because people will be able to hear my voice before they hear my transmissions.
The only good thing about these radios is that they use regular rechargeable AAA batteries instead of some proprietary battery pack. This means that if you do buy these and find you cant return them, you at least have 8 reachargeable NiMH batteries you can use in a decent set of two-way radio.
Net, there are much better radios for sale at Radioshack for the same amount of money. A pair of Radioshack radios has given me excellent service for years. They are much more user-friendly and actually deliver on their marketing claims. I'd like to recommend that you stay away from any Cobra-brand radios and take your business to Radioshack instead. I know I will.
