cbaumann's Full Review: Cobra Electronics microTALK LI5600-2dx (14 Channel...
The microTALK1 by Cobra Electronics is a great radio at an even better price, I picked up a pair for $49.95! Let me tell you, just because it has a cheap price tag, doesn't mean you get cheap performance.
These little puppies perform just as well as the more expensive ones! Prior to buying these, I had bought motorolas FR50's for $80.00, the microTALK1 performs just as well, maybe even better. The 2-mile range works as promised, my friend and I tried them out, his house is about 2 miles away, and they work perfect, with a clear strong signal. The fold down antena is very convieniant for caring them in your pocket, or for ladies, your purse. The call bottom is usfull, loud and gets your attention. The end transmission signal is a plus also.
The only things I would gripe about, are-
1. The lack of channels. You only get 2, using a switch on the side of the unit to select channel A or B. Because there is only 2 channels, the interferance from other units in areas like big citys, amusement parks or the mall, is common. So sometimes you can hear other peoples converstations and they can hear yours. So, just be carefull what you say, since the channels are far from private.
2. The unit takes 4 AAA batteries, which are more expensive than AA's. So you'll be spending quite a lot on batteries, or you can spend some extra cash for a battery charger.
But, besides those two problems, the microtalk1 is a great radio. I would reccomend purchasing one.
