| mjtriplett's Full Review: Coca - Cola Diet Coke 2 Liter Bottle 67.6 Floz |
Some people drink coffee in the morning. Others drink juice. Me, I drink Diet Coke. I know, I know
you probably find that gross and unhealthy, but please dont tell me to stop. At this point in my life, I cannot. Perhaps a 2009 resolution
Diet Coke came to be in 1982 and was Americas largest selling low-calorie soft drink within a year. I still fondly remember the celebrity packed advertisements
Just For The Taste Of It
Diet Coke. Today, you can find it worldwide and in almost any form imaginable. In addition to the traditional flavor, you can get Cherry, Plus (enhanced with vitamins), Lime, Caffeine Free or sweetened with Splenda. On the shelves, you can find 2 liters, 12, 20 or 24 oz bottles, or 6, 12 or 24 packs of cans. Prices vary on the shelves and in the vending machines; we usually buy bottled 6-packs (20 or 24oz) for around $5 and I can usually find a single bottle from vending for between $1 and $1.75. You can purchase a 2-liter for about $1. Most retailers and grocers have sales listed every week to encourage bulk purchases.
I prefer just the original flavor, and I usually drink Diet Coke in its 20oz bottle form. Although Ill drink it from a 2-liter or a can, I actually happen to think it has a crisper and better taste coming directly from the bottle. Like regular Coke, it has much more of a zip in its taste than does Pepsi. Its less sweet and, to me, tastes tangier and less flat. There is nothing like a fresh, cold swig out of a newly opened bottle. It gives me a jolt and keeps me focused. Of course, if Im really thirsty, Diet Coke (or any other soft drink) doesnt really help, and I try to get my water allotment in each day. But eventually, I just want to get a more refreshing taste.
Besides the great taste, a huge benefit to drinking Diet Coke is that it has no calories. It wont wreck a diet. However, the downside is the Aspartame. Studies vary, but it is clearly not the healthiest ingredient. For those who are really concerned, you could get the Splenda version. Or, you could just try to limit your intake like I do. Of course, when Im burning through a 48 hour study session or have been up all night with a sick kid, its hard to deny myself the taste and the caffeine.
Another bonus I get from drinking Diet Coke is the opportunity to participate in Coke Rewards. On the rewards website, you can enter a code from the bottom of the bottle cap of any Coke product. For each code entered, you will be awarded points (usually 3), which build up for the opportunity to claim rewards or enter contests. Like any promo, you have to have a lot of points to get anything good. Rewards range from movie rentals and ring tone downloads to TVs and DVD players.
The ingredients in Diet Coke include Carbonated Water, Caramel Color, Aspartame, Phosporic Acid, Potassium Benzoate (To Protect Taste), Natural Flavors, Citric Acid, Caffeine.
