Pros: Smooth, refreshing nose and taste. Affordable.
Cons: Lives in the shadow of the Sapphire
The Bottom Line: A great alternative to Sapphire. Cheaper, too!

The State of the Gin...or how I learned to love the martini.
These would have made good titles to this review; my first in a long respite. Been too busy to really sit down, and give a worthwhile critique of a superior product.
But that time has now arrived. I hope to become a regular reviewer of the liquors which will become a staple in my ever-expanding bar as I explore the intriguing world of the cocktail/martini/shot etc.
I will start off reviewing the most revered, and perhaps under-appreciated spirit; gin. Boodles Gin is wonderful expression of the product. It's clean in every respect. The nose is refreshing, and the finish silky. Very little medicine-esque characteristics are present.
I have used this gin in three ways, and will briefly describe my experiences:
1. Straight: As described above. Served chilled, no ice, and poured into a small, chilled snifter.
2. Vesper: This martini provides a tricky test for any gin. Can it blend well with the Vodka and Lillet? Well, I have no complaints. The Stolichnaya vodka and Boodles gin provide a great combination for this strong drink. Served in a chilled martini glass. Shaken, not stirred!
3. Gin and Tonic: This classic cocktail is the true test for any gin. If it can't do G and T than it really has no place in my bar. It succeeds admirably. Again, it's strength of not overpowering the tastebuds just let you enjoy the drink. I use Canada Dry tonic water with and without lime served in a chilled highball glass stacked with ice.
Cons
Well, what can I say? It's not Bombay Sapphire. As BS (no offense intended) is by far the most popular gin on the market this review will no doubt fall on one too many deaf ears. And that's a shame.
Conclusion
It's really quite simple. If you want an excellent, all-around gin look no further. While it lacks Bombay's granduer you will have enough money left over to buy your mixer. And I assure you, there will be no regrets.
Cheers,
Z
