| willow1584's Full Review: Cold Eeze Sugar Free Lemon Lime Cold Remedy Lozeng... |
Cold-Eeze has been used in my family for as long as I can remember. If someone felt like a cold was coming on, my mom would push these on the person. She has always sworn by them. Well, the apple doesn't fall far from the tree, because I feel there are a lot of benefits coming from these lozenges as well.
Cold-Eeze contains Zinc Gluconate Glycine which is a homeopathic remedy used to reduce the duration and severity of the common cold.
THE FACT SECTION At the very first sign of a cold, you are supposed to start taking these lozenges. You completely dissolve (never chew it) one lozenge every 2-4 hours as needed until all symptoms subside. Adults should take 6 lozenges per day, 4 lozenges for children 12-17. Look at the warnings section of the box. If you are taking monocycline, doxycycline, tetracycline, (3 antibiotics) or are on coumadin therapy, you should not take zinc treatment, due to zinc inhibiting the absorption of these medicines. Also, taking Cold-Eeze on an empty stomach could cause minor stomach upset. You should also avoid citrus fruits or juices, or any products containing citric acid for 1/2 hor before and after taking Cold-Eeze because they may diminish product effectiveness.
On the box of Cold-Eeze it states; "Two clinical studies have shown: Cold-Eeze proprietary formula reduces the duration and severity of colds by 42% or 3-4 days."
THE OPINION SECTION I really do believe that this stuff works. The earlier into the cold you take it, the better. If you feel a tickle in your throat, pop a lozenge in your mouth. It can only help. The lemon lime flavor is pretty good. It takes about 5-10 minutes to completely dissolve a lozenge, depending on how much you suck on it. The down side is that the Zinc leaves a horrible aftertaste and film in your mouth. That starts forming pretty soon after you take it. And it lasts for quite awhile after it is gone, too. After I dissolve a lozenge, I have a strong aversion to water because the flavor of the zinc. Drinking water with that zinc-ness is gross. It is really hard to get that taste and film out of your mouth. But because I feel it is so effective at shortening a cold, and minimizing symptoms, it is worth it!
I've taken Cold-Eeze almost every time I get a cold, or even just think I'm getting one. When I've gotten a cold that is "going around" (like at work or something), mine tends to be not so bad or long when I take Cold-Eeze. I generally don't take as many as they recommend, though I probably should to get even more benefits.
Each lozenge is individually wrapped, so you can always keep a couple with you for just in case circumstances. They are made in the USA, which is a plus in my book.
Cold-Eeze are a bit pricey (though well worth it) at about $5.00 for an 18 count box. They can be found most places that also sell cold medicines.
One other little fact that is nifty about this product, it has no expiration date.
