jps246's Full Review: Coleman Company #827A360T 10x24 Insect Head Net
Hiking during bug season and just want to escape from the bugs? Get yourself one of the Coleman Insect Head Nets and you will save head and face from most of those biting bugs.
Think of these head nets as a mosquito screen for your head. It's basically a small bag of netting that fits over your head and with some elastic in the opening, closes tight enough around the bottom of your neck to keep bugs from climbing up and into the net. There's also a small piece of solid fabric on top since the head net doesn't need to be completely made of netting.
Basics
If you're hiking or otherwise spending time outdoors during black fly or mosquito season (or any other biting bug season), this head net is a wise investment. It protects your face, ears and neck from the bugs and it's not all that uncomfortable or awkward to wear.
The netting material is lightweight and tight enough to keep bugs from crawling under it or through it. The netting is a dark green color and there's a bit of solid fabric that sits on the top of your head that is a camouflage color.
I think the net would fit just about anyone, from a child up to a full-size adult since the elastic around the opening stretches and tightens to fit around anything.
Experiences
Sometimes the bugs just get really bad and that's when I break out one of these head nets. I don't think they are the most comfortable thing to wear, but they do work and they keep the bugs out of my eyes, nose and ears and I'm happy with that. I'd suggest wearing a ball cap when wearing this net though, since the bill of the hat will keep the netting from resting directly on your face.
The nets are fairly durable. I've had one for a couple of years and worn in hiking fairly regularly. Considering they only cost a few dollars in most stores, I think they do just fine. That's also another benefit of these head nets, since they are from Coleman, you'll find them in almost any outdoor gear section in any department store (if they carry Coleman). So if you're off going somewhere and you forget your net, you can stop just about anywhere and pick one up (that's how I got this one!).
Final Thoughts
If you're spending time in an area with lots of bugs, invest in Coleman's Insect Head Nets. They work, they're easy to wear and not all that uncomfortable. Plus
