The Coleman Exponent 22-ounce Fuel Bottle provides fuel storage (and use) for your Coleman Exponent stove. For some models the pump assembly is installed directly into the fuel bottle and with other stove models, you pour the gas out of the bottle and into your stove. This bottle can be used for both types of Exponent stoves. The bottle is designed to work with the threads on the fuel pumps of the Exponent stove line and with other stoves that have their pumps rest directly into the fuel bottle (including MSR stoves such as the Whisperlite models). In those cases, the fuel pump assemblage threads directly into the bottle where you can then pressurize it by pumping the fuel pump and then start using your stove. When the stove's fuel assemblage isn't in the bottle, it is sealed with a screw top that creates an airtight seal.
The fuel bottle is made from a single piece of aluminum and is very light and very strong at the same time. The bottle is about 4 inches in diameter and is about 12 to 13 inches high with the cap on it. Both the aluminum and the plastic that forms the cap are rugged and shouldn't have any issues being packed into a backpack and brought into the backcountry.
I've had a Coleman bottle for several years now and it's been dropped and banged around and other than a few scratches, I have never had any significant damage done to the bottle. The shoulder and base area of the bottle are reinforced to prevent any bulging or stress fractures when the fuel assemblage of the stove pressurizes the bottle and this also protects the bottle as your backpacking with it.
In my mind the 22-ounce sized bottle is designed for longer backpacking trip since a full bottle of fuel will last for about a week when I'm using it to make dinner and breakfast ever day. Final Thoughts I think the larger 22-ounce fuel bottle from Coleman does come in handy, especially on a longer backpacking trip. That said, it adds significantly more bulk and weight than smaller bottles. However if you need the fuel, the Coleman Exponent 22-ounce Fuel Bottle is a great choice.
