Pros: Small and very portable.
Cons: Only for day trips.
This is an ideal ice chest for a day at the beach or any other outdoor day trip.
It has enough room for 2 people for lunch or one person for an entire day. This is the ice chest my brother and I used (or my girlfriend and I) in high school when we went to the beach with friends. We would have about 3 drinks each and 2 sandwiches. I would of course bring non-perishable snacks and usually be home for dinner.
How it works.
It is a simple ice chest with an attached lid. The lid can open up like normal or you can flip it. To do that you open it all the way (180 degrees) then slid the lid back over the opening. This seals the inside of the chest and exposes a platform for food and drink. The platform is nothing special, it just has 2 shallow cup holders and a 3rd shallow depression.
There was no thought to the ergonomics when Coleman designed this ice chest. Heck, a high school student could have done a better job. Thankfully because of its lightweight it does not need a fancy handle or any other comfort features, but it would sure be nice when you are walking across 300 yards of beach sand.
The entire container is plastic so all you need is a damp cloth to wipe it down with. If the container gets stinky then I suggest using some baking powder to neutralize the odor.
This is an old ice chest that I have owned for a long time. Or rather my parents owned and I accidentally took when I got married. It has been used a lot and is still in good condition. It looks old and the white is now more of an off white but there are no cracks or any other damage to this ice chest. It has really help up well. And it is even strong enough for a person to sit on, but I wouldnt recommend it.
How long does it hold ice?
Just for a day. If I pack it in the morning then I expect the ice to completely melt by dinnertime when I am on a hot beach. Sooner if I dont use much ice.
What I like.
-Small and compact.
-FlipLid feature is cute.
What I do not like.
-Not very insulated.
-Handle is not ergonomically designed.
