Good results (Reply to this comment)

I have seen the self inflating coleman air beds, but decided to purchase instead the regular queen size air mattress and the coleman pump separatly. I have had wonderful results. Our air mattress stayed inflated for a week before we needed to add a little air to it (No small feat since my husband and I were both on it and we are not small people. Also the air pump was not battery powered but a rechargeable one and worked very nicely, and can be used to inflate a variety of other items. The pump also reverses to quickly deflate the air mattress.
It was a little more expensive this way, the mattress was $28 and the pump was about $24, but sometimes it you need to pay a little more to get the quality you want.

I agree completely with shauncool. I would only add that I bought it on the recommendation of a chiropractor (misguided, I learned) for my back problems. I did not buy it for camping. I was told it was economical and the best.
Economical? Well, yes when compared with aerobeds, particularly recent ones that have been advertised a lot. But...
And this is a big but...
Use this mattress for camping only! My queen-size Coleman aerobed was 3/4 deflated by the next morning. I had to blow it up every night. Add to that the cost of batteries, as shauncool details, then in my opinion it's too expensive.
I wound up buying an aerobed which has given me no trouble and so far I have only had to inflate once.
Coleman's is very comfortable, but it does not last.

Did you check for a leak? (Reply to this comment)
by coolwebstuff
You didn't mention wether or not you checked the air matress for a leak. Nor did you mention if you contacted the manufacture to see if they said anything about the leaving the batteries in the pump or about holding air for several days. It is possible that you were unlucky enough to get both a pump and matress that have problems and not typical of the rest. It has happened to me before with products ... seems like these days quality isn't the issue, its easier for the manufacture to just replace it if the customer complains. Most stores will exchange or refund it too. Its not worth losing a customer over. I recently bought a cot, seemed OK when I got it, after sleeping on it over night I discoved it was not very comfortable and one of the straps tore on the second night (not a big deal though). I took it back to the store and they gave me a refund without a hassle. Oh, by the way, that's why I'm reading these reviews, I'm looking for something else now.

Glad to hear i'm not alone. I'm surprised that this category isn't FILLED with people writing bad reviews on this mattress.
Thanks a lot for your input!

Human Being. (Reply to this comment)

Sorry to say, I had even sadder experiences with this particular product. It worked fine for about three days, then started to lose pressure. I could not pinpoint any leaks. Right now, it will hold pressure for approximately 3 hours before losing same. Needless to say, I would NOT recommend this product to anyone, for any reason.......there is obviously a design flaw existent to the extent that the mattress fails to perform the specified function adequately.

Opinion is Right On (Reply to this comment)

I couldn't have said it better myself! I too have this air mattress & quick pump set, and experience the same difficulties you described. I didn't know that keeping the batteries in the pump was detrimental, though. Do you know why that is?
My husband & I now have a system to deal with the deflating problem. We start blowing up the mattress with the quick pump, but finish it with a foot pump. This gets the mattress alot more firm than with just the quick pump alone, & it tends to retain more air. It's kind of a pain, but we have the darn thing so we might as well use it.

I had the same problem w/a Coleman mattress; I replaced it with a Brand X'er at Wally World, < 1/2 price, and have had no problem. Nothing like a trusted company coasting on their reputation.

Bad choice! (Reply to this comment)

I bought a queen-size no-name-brand flocked air mattress for about $29.99 several years ago at a sporting goods store that's no longer in business. No deflating experienced... EVER! Of course, I didn't get that handy-dandy pump that you did... I use a regular foot pump (large one!) on campouts and can use a vacuum (reverse it) at home. Thanks for the warning if I ever need another large air mattress. (But mine may just make it a few more years!!!) Karen
