Youre probably wondering why Im reviewing a kids toothpaste. Im sort of wondering that myself. As it is, I have a dozen reviews in draft mode, and this is the product I choose to write about? Firstly, you should know that my son dislikes this product, and I have an aversion to it as well. At the end of this writing, the Kids Colgate 2-in-1 Toothpaste & Mouthwash Watermelon Flavor will make a permanent visit to the refuse pile.
What makes this product a childrens toothpaste? For one thing, it tastes like watermelon candy. Secondly, it has a flip-top lid, and a squeezable bottle, both of which are thought to be child friendly. Its a bottle of toothpaste as opposed to a tube. It stands upright in the medicine chest, and contains 4.6 oz. The packaging appeals to parents, and their offspring. The wrapping features bright neon green and pink colors. In the corner, is a watermelon figure wearing a sparkling smile. Thus, if youre in the market for childrens toothpaste, this ones apt to standout on the shelf. In addition, the wrapping has a clear section, so you can see when youre running low.
The Kids Colgate 2-in-1 Toothpaste & Mouthwash Watermelon Flavor is not sparkly, but it smells like watermelon candy. It looks like green liquid dish soap, and has the same runny consistency. I presume thats because its a toothpaste gel/mouthwash. By the way, what makes a toothpaste/mouthwash combination different from other toothpastes that freshen your breath? According to Colgate, its a one-step process of combining the cleaning power of toothpaste, and breath freshening of mouthwash. Fair enough but dont regular toothpaste do that as well? The company also says that the liquid formula has a light foaming action thats supposed to get into the hard to reach areas between your teeth, and therefore, it, Kills the germs that cause bad breath.
All right, Kids Colgate 2-in-1 Toothpaste & Mouthwash Watermelon Flavor does provide fluoride, which has been proven to prevent cavities. Moreover, if your kid dislikes brushing, then why not experiment with fun flavors. Well, dont read the warning on this bottle because it cautions parents to call Poison Control if ingested. Keep out of the reach of children under 6-years of age. If more than used for brushing is accidentally swallowed, get medical help or contact a Poison Control Center right away.

Our Experience:
When I was young, my favorite type of gum was Bubblicious Bubble Gum Watermelon Wave. Anytime I had an opportunity, I'd buy a pack. Well, I havent indulged since my days in high school, which was over 20-years now. Naturally, I assumed the Kids Colgate 2-in-1 Toothpaste & Mouthwash Watermelon Flavor would be a hit with my boy who hates brushing his teeth. William was excited to brush his teeth the night the NEW toothpaste came into our home. I was relieved not to be forcing the issue. The stuff runs like maple syrup, so you have to move fast, otherwise itll drip all over the counter, and your hands. My boy spat it out almost the instant it went into his mouth. He told me it tasted icky. We finished the job with his other toothpaste, and I tried it myself. Honestly, I dont know what the fuss was about. It tastes like candy. Its sweet with a strong watermelon flavor. If you put it directly on your tongue, it'll give you that just-ate-a-lemon look, because its tangy. As the warning implies, its not to be ingested. Its to clean your teeth.
More importantly, the product didnt give me the fresh breath Im used to with other toothpastes. I didnt feel the foaming action, and it felt like I had to brush my teeth again. Thus, I did
with my regular toothpaste. At $2.89 the price isn't bad, but it's messy. After just a few uses, it's gooped up the flip-top lid. If youre pregnant, and youre having a difficult time brushing your teeth with mint-flavored toothpastes, like I did, then it may be worth trying. Its not for those who dont like strong, tangy flavored toothpastes.
