We have all been through our share of all-purpose cleaners and I have my favorites for different chores. I originally bought Fabuloso from a convenience store because I was in a hurry to clean and deodorize a couple of items that I managed to save from our recent confrontation with Hurricane Ike. The musty, moldy, fishy odor that seawater leaves behind is overpoweringly disgusting and difficult to remove. Even though there was no actual contact with some items, the smell permiated everything I owned, including wood, clothing and bedding.
The Product:
Fabuloso comes to us from Colgate, a company founded over 200 years ago who also manufactures such products as Colgate Toothpaste, Murphy’s Oil and Softsoap. This product is an all-purpose cleaner, originally made for the commercial market but is now available to the public in most grocery stores.
Colgate’s Claim:
Fabuloso multi-use cleaner beautifully cleans, floors, bathrooms, kitchens, walls and other household surfaces in a snap. Plus the long-lasting, enjoyable aroma leaves your house smelling fabulously fresh. Neutral pH makes product safe for people and surfaces, contains no acids or alkalis. All cleaning agents are biodegradable. Long-lasting fragrance. Easy grip bottle! With child-safety cap! Cleans and leaves a long-lasting fresh scent. No residue left, no need to rinse. Made in USA.
At one point, there was a little controversy about the appearance of this product. It comes in bright colors, in clear bottles and was mistaken for a sport’s drink. It was also attractive to children as something that might be tasty. Colgate, however, stepped up and introduced a child-proof cap which has since made the product a little safer to have around.
This product comes in the following scents: Ocean Paradise, Baby Powder, Lavender, Morning Pine, Citrus and Fruits, Passion of Fruits
My Experience:
As soon as I opened the bottle, I noticed that this product had a very strong scent. That was perfect for what I needed it for. Ironicallly, I had bought the Ocean Paradise scent as well as the Lavender but it was a delightful, perfumey scent that was really fresh smelling. I put two capfuls in a gallon of water and set to work. This product wiped off mud residue easily and gave my wood items a fresh scent. Since it was biodegradable and acid-free, I took a chance and added a capful to the washer when I washed the bedding I had rescued. It worked like a charm and took out the musty odors. I have also used it for cleaning floors, and bathrooms for which it does a great job. However, in the kitchen, it is a little weak, although it doesn’t claim to be a kitchen cleaner. Not the best of degreasers, I prefer to use something else.
Conclusion:
I commend this product for the freshness and strength of its scents which are so unique and linger for days. I recommend Fabuloso for smelly jobs as a cleaner and deodorizer .I love the scents so much that I use it in my pot pourri warmer to freshen the house. It is a good all-purpose cleaner for light jobs but I don’t recommend it for its degreasing power.
However, if you have a smelly problem, as I did, this is the product for you.
