| willow4's Full Review: Lexmark Jet 3200 InkJet Printer |
When I finally got a computer I was so excited! I had received the processor, monitor, keyboard, mouse and speakers as gifts. I still needed a printer so I started asking all of my friends what they used and why. I found many of them preferred Lexmark brands. Their reasons were all pretty much the same, great quality for the price.
When I finally headed off to my local computer store to purchase my printer I felt reasonably sure I was going to come home with a Lexmark printer. I wasn't set on this brand but leaned toward it. Once at the store I found a sales person who was very helpful. He showed me several different printers in my price range. After looking at all they had to offer I decided on the Lexmark 3200.
I was able to get this computer on sale for $150.00 and it also came with a $30.00 mail in rebate. In the end I felt I did well for $120.00 total. I got a printer I was pleased with for less than I was planning to spend. I installed the programs for the computer as soon as I got home. I thought it was a sinch to install, even for a novice like myself. I just put in the disk and followed the directions.
I get great printouts with Lexmark 3200 too. The colors are always perfect and well defined. It uses both a color and black ink cartridge. I was warned when I purchased this printer that the ink cartridges were a little on the expensive side. However, by doing a little research and footwork I have found them at very reasonable prices in comparison with the others on the market. I spend about $27.00 per cartridge. I watch for sales and coupons too.
I have bought one cartridge that was defective and could not get my money back. The store said that they had no way of knowing if I had used all the ink or if it was really defective. I quit going to that store for my cartridges. The printing menu that comes up when it is in a printing job shows the level of ink left in a cartridge. I think this is wonderfully handy. I can keep track of how much I am using on the average per cartridge and how long I can expect a cartridge to last. I usually don't have to buy an ink cartridge more than once every three or four months. I have found that I get about 100 prints before I have get more ink. The salesman told me that was great usage for an ink cartridge. I thought it was normal. It is also very easy to remove and replace the ink cartridges.
I think the printing speed is a little slow with detailed images but on the average does just fine for me. For all black prints it is really pretty quick.
This software allows you do lots of different things with your printer too. You can print on plain paper or transparencies, envelopes, index cards, postcards and greeting cards. You can also print iron-on transfers with this printer too. It will also do photos and banners.
You can load up to 100 pieces of paper according to the manufacturer but I have found my printer does better when it is not so full. If there is a large amount of paper in the feeder it will pull several sheets of paper through at once and may mess up the print or jam.
This printer will work with Windows 3.1 or 3.11, Windows NT 4.0, Windows 95 & 98 and DOS. Lexmark offers great customer service. You can reach them online or by phone or mail. I have contacted them online once and found them to respond quickly and efficiently. When I had to call in I already had a case number and the tech on the other end of the phone was able to solve my problem. They were also friendly and professional.
I think these make perfect choices for the new computer user or the experienced user. I have really gotten a lot of use out of my printer and it still prints right along. I recommend it to friends whenever they ask what printer I am using.
