| plotinus's Full Review: Lexmark Jet 3200 InkJet Printer |
The Lexmark 3200 will take the big jobs without complaint, but it does it at it's own ponderous pace. The print quality is exceptional and for your daily printing needs will make you very happy.
Recently I took on a big but very interesting task. It was my in-laws 50th wedding anniversary and I took albums full of old photos, some more than 60 years old, and after fixing them up with my photo software I printed them out on the Lexmark 3200 using Kodak photo sheets. OUTSTANDING! The printer made them look like the day they were first printed. What incredible photo quality. The 12A1990 photo print cartridge handles the black and white tones perfectly while maintaining true color across the spectrum.
Much has been said regarding the expense of the cartridges and the short life span. In truth, the capacity of the cartridges is not much shorter, if at all, than other printer makes. The cost is in direct relation to the capacity of the cartridge and the cartridge holds a large quantity of ink. If you don't need laser sharp print on every page, the Lexmark software allows you to reduce the quality (and ink consumption) right from an on-screen prompt. Even on the lowest quality setting, however, you wouldn't be embarrassed to send a letter to a business associate.
Now to the down side. This is not a whisper quiet printer. In fact, it's rather loud. Not so much in the actual printing but in the start up and paper drive. It's not something to use in the middle of the night because it will wake up even sound sleepers with it's chugging and bumping. An office environment would swallow most of this sound, but why add more racket?
The software for the Lexmark 3200 is simple, understandable and has neat little features like a graphic display to let you know when it's time to get another ink cartridge. In the year I've had this machine and with the various quality of paper that I've used, I've never had a paper jam or any feeding problem. It's one headache that Lexmark owners rarely have to deal with (unless they have a defective printer).
So, who would benefit from this printer? Someone who needs to print under 100 sheets a day in color or black and white, or wants to make DYNAMITE photos (I recommend the Microtek scanner and it's included Adobe PhotoDeluxe software).
