| surferdude7's Full Review: Sony Color Video DPP-SV77 Thermal Photo Printer |
The Sony DPP-SV77 is the perfect addition to any digital camera when you are on the go and want to print some beautiful photos, no computer needed to print on this printer. It is 9-1/2 inches wide x 3-7/16 inches in height x 10-1/2 inches deep. This printer is also great for the home PC if you wish to only print photos no larger than 4 x 6 inches.
Memory Cards
The DPP-SV77 has a slot for Memory Stick Media, which is found on many Sony digital cameras. With an optional adapter you can also use SmartMedia and CompactFlash cards.
Here is an impressive part, it has a built-in CD-RW drive, this is mainly for being able to read the Mavica CDs. It will also let you burn your photos from a Memory Stick or other media cards.
When connected to a computer you can upload your photos from your memory cards, stick or CD.
LCD Display
They have included an impressive but small 3.2" color LCD display so you can view your photos before you print them.
What makes it so impressive is the screen is touch-sensitive. Here you can make your adjustments by the touch of the screen. When viewing your photos in thumbnails, all you have to do is touch the photo you wish to view and it will change to a full screen mode.
Viewing Your Photos
Viewing you photos are done in many ways, first the LCD Display, then through a computer and also though your TV set.
An RCA Video jack for TV viewing and a USB connection for the computer.
Photos
This printer uses print packs, which consist of the paper and ribbon. This is a dye sublimation printer that prints 16-million colors using a thermal transfer process. They use three colors to produce a beautiful photo in about 90 seconds, cyan, magenta and yellow.
Paper and ribbon packs come in two sizes of 4" x 6" or 4" x 3.5" size. Paper capacity in the printer is 25 sheets for the 4" x 6" and 30 sheets for the 3.5" size.
Simple
Simple is the word to describe how easy it is to use the Sony DPP-SV77 printer.
(1) Place your memory card, stick or CD in.
(2) Find the photos you wish to print on the color LCD screen.
(3) The press the Print button and it will print for you automatically.
Computer Drivers
They supply you with drivers for the PC for Windows 98, 98SE, 2000 and ME. I havent tried it but if you run Windows XP then the 2000 driver will probably work.
For the Macintosh OS 8.51, 8.6, 9.0 and 9.1
Resolution
Printing resolution is 403dpi x 403dpi. (Dots Per Inch)
Overall
One of the easiest and simple ways to print your photos from your digital cameras.
Photo quality was also very impressive with a borderless print on the 4 x 6 inch prints. I only printed the 4 x 6 inch prints and they said 90 seconds for a print, well it took over two minutes on some, I guess it depends on the colors on your photo.
Connecting it to a TV did give you the ability to view your photos much better than the LCD screen and the photos looked good on the big screen.
The printer lists for $499 and the paper & ribbon pack are $19.95.
The only drawbacks to this printer are the small printing size of the paper and the cost.
