Pros:1.8oz bag goes quickly, true Salsa experience
Cons:Salty taste, lost that classic Combos flavor
The Bottom Line: For those adventerous stomachs among us who just want something to crunch on with a different flavor, Combos Zesty Salsa Tortilla is worth the tortilla taste.
On a recent trip to the local gas station, I decided to pick up a few snacks for the Saints football game at noon. The first item that caught my attention was a small, 1.8oz bag of Combos Zesty Salsa Tortilla. Clearly marked were the words, “New Flavor” and that was all I needed to justify the purchase price.
How would this new Combos snack taste?
Read on to find out.
The bag is the typical plastic, solidly sealed offering that Combos has done so well for years. Boldly labeled on the front is the brand name surrounded by a few scattered and accurate pictures of the snacks inside. Each plastic bag has about 15 pieces of this pretzel style stuffed snack inside. You cannot reseal this bag once opened so have a Ziploc bag handy to keep your treat fresh if you do not eat it all in one sitting.
As soon as you crunch this product you will notice a distinct, mild salsa flavor. Instead of a true pretzel shell, Combos elected to use a tortilla shell which actually worked and gave a familiar Mexican restaurant style ambiance. Five seconds after the initial crunch, you will be rocked by a salty aftertaste. I could never taste any hint of cheese in this product but a chemical or preservative flavor was clearly present.
Ingredients And Nutritional Facts
Each bag has a total of 210 calories with 90 of them considered fat calories. 10 grams of total fat with 4.5 grams of saturated fat seems on par for this type of snack. 26 grams of total carbohydrates with 1 gram being fiber and 4 grams coming from sugars. For those looking for protein, you will get 3 grams from this bag of snacks. The real story is the 550mg of sodium which account for 23 percent of the recommended daily allowance for an adult. Children should be careful eating this since their daily allowance is much less.

The salsa flavors are very strong in this product by Combos. I would have liked to have a little more heat or hot pepper in the snack but it was alright without it. However, the intense salty after taste ruined the overall taste for me. I would recommend keeping a glass of water or your favorite soda nearby to wash it all down. Luckily, I only bought a 1.8oz bag so there was no need for me to endure anymore of this quirky flavor. In moderation this product is good but that would be all.
You can find this at most finer gas stations in your hometown or favorite shopping mall.
In all I would give Combos Zesty Salsa Tortilla one thumb up and one thumb down.
