What I don't get is WHY HOTELS IN PHILI ARE SO EXPENSIVE?
I was on a business trip to Phili and wanted to get some decent hotel close to Downtown. But everything was outrageously expensive: Sheraton started at $300 and I am not even talking about Four Seasons...What I am finding hard to grasp is what the ... is the difference between Hilton, Shearaton and Comfort Inn so that it costs extra $200? Think about it - what can you buy on $200? I would get a GOOD vacuum cleaner, or Bose headphones that will last for years and make my life significantly better. Now I question myself about what exactly I could get in Mariott during those 8 hours of sleep that is worth Bose headphones? Proximity to Downtown? THis costs barely $10 in taxi fare... anything else?
Anyway, let's get to the point...
Hotel Itself
Location
Comfort Inn is conveniently located close to Ben Franklin bridge and just 10 minutes (~$10) taxi ride from downtown Phili. It stays between a major highway and another, more quiet street and is close to everything.
I did not have much time to walk around, but the area seemed decent and safe. One minus of this location is that there is a noise from the highway that you may hear in your room if it faces that side. The amount of noise is low and I had no problems sleeping well.
Interior
I've been there during a major renovation and one might expect some improvements in the hotel's interior soon. As of right now, I found it very good compared to other Comfort Inns and certainly worth the price differential.
Of course you could see that carpets were not new, but why do I care, I don't stay there for weeks...
Amenities
Hotel has parking, but I haven't used it. THere is a small bar downstairs and they have decent selection of beers.
Inside the rooms you get standard selection - old TV, crappy iron and ugly bedroom furniture set. But again, I do not plan to live there for years...
Personnel
THis is a downside - Why people think they should be rude? Okay, they are tired, I understand, but why do I care? For freakin' $170 I DO EXPECT to get SOME service. A woman forgot to call me a taxi, thus I would not rely on them too much....
Price
Again, that's the key - I got that place for $170 and I still think this is TOOOO MUCH. But Sheraton was $300. What would I get there? Okay, they would have called me taxi and said : "Good morning sir"... do I care? For $130 they will tell me "Hello"??? I can tell that for $5! TWICE!
Breakfast
This is another downside of cheap hotels (again, I can't say $170 is cheap), but breakfast is crappy. I got yougurt, apple and some juice. Everything else was crappy.
Conclusion
Still a good deal if you don't plan t stay there forever!
