| jetbluefan1's Full Review: Comfort Suites Maingate |
Ive been to Orlando past the amount of numbers my fingers can hold. On one of our visits one year ago, we decided to stay at Comfort Suites because we werent looking for something fancy or anything.
Purchase
We had been owners of an RCI Timeshare a bit lower in Ft. Lauderdale. So, I called up RCI and said I wanted a place to stay while in Orlando. Is there anything open? They said that I couldnt trade my RCI Timeshare points at that time since everything was all booked up, but they did tell me about a special deal.
The Deal - We were allowed to stay in Comfort Suites, Kissimmee for a week for FREE! But, of course, there was a catch. We had to tour a new RCI Resort being built a mile down which is now known as Celebration World Resort. We did end up buying a timeshare week there also, but thats in another review.
Property
Comfort Suites, Kissimmee isnt all that fancy or glamorous. I would actually consider it an upper-class motel with many more amenities. The building is two levels, and to get to your room you have to walk outside - there are no indoor corridors. The corridors did have several vending machines, but there were only stairs to get from one level to the other. Perhaps elevators would help for handicap people.
The parking lot is a single lot that surrounds all of the rooms. There was no problem with our parking and it was free.
Check-In
Our flight arrived into Orlando around 5:00, non-stop service on MetroJet by Usairways from Rochester to Orlando, Florida. We got to the hotel at around 6:00 and checked in. The lobby was nothing too fancy, yet not shabby. There were a few chairs to sit on and rest. Everyone was friendly and helpful.
Room
The room wasnt exactly spacious, but it was clean. There were two king-sized beds, a television cable-ready, a desk and chair, a lamp and night table, a closet with an iron and hangars, heat/air conditioning, and a chair in the corner.
Decor was okay if you like wooden furnishings. All the armoire pieces were in light-brown wood, but the bead spread was dark pink which was just too much for me. The view was of the parking lot, and instead of being in the back of the room, the window was in the entrance. Thats what makes this hotel feel more like a motel.
The bathroom was in the back of the room; this is something else that made the hotel feel more like a motel room. In the bathroom was a plug-in hair-dryer, soap, small shampoo bottles, and several towels. The maid came in daily to straighten out the bathroom, add extra toilet paper, and give us new towels. Speaking of the maid...
One day we decided to sleep in and get to the parks around lunch. We had out do not disturb sign on the handle, and at about 8:00 we heard someone knocking on our door. I wasnt fully awake, so I had to clue what was going on. Then, I heard pounding and the maid yelling, Im coming in to clean your room! Open the door! I told her to go away and she kept on knocking. Soon, I opened the door and looked at her. She stepped back and said, Oh, you were sleeping. Maybe she did it just to get a laugh, but I certainly wasnt laughing.
Amenities
Usually hotels dont expand much on amenities, but Comfort Suites, Kissimmee had enough to last the evenings.
Pool - The pool was about an average sized pool with lighting all over the place. Lifeguard duty was off at 10:00, but it was open all 24 hours. There were many tanning beds and chairs. We only spent about an hour here since we were mostly at the parks.
Arcade - We didnt spend time here, but I did manage to get a peek into the arcade. There seemed to be only five arcade games, but a lot of kids seemed to like it since it gave them something to do when the day would come to a close.
Dining
Our stay came with a free Continental Breakfast! We dined in an open room in the lobby. It was buffet style, and we enjoyed:
- fresh croissants
- bagels with cream cheese, butter, or jelly
- cereal with skim or whole milk
- muffins
- toast
The silverware was plastic and the dining room was pretty small. However, all the food was well prepared and I didnt mind the light meal. We always had large lunches in the parks.
My Thoughts
Comfort Suites, Kissimmee is more of a motel rather than a hotel. There isnt much to say about it! The room was basically an ordinary motel room but a lot cleaner. Of course, the maid didnt know anything about respectful service. I did enjoy the light Continental Breakfast, and the check-in staff members were friendly and helpful. The pool was good for the hotter days, and a lot of the children staying there enjoyed the arcade.
Would I recommend it? No. You can find somewhere a lot nicer such as the Marriott World Center, or perhaps some of the other resorts around. If youre heading to the Kissimmee/Orlando area, you want to make it a great visit and stay somewhere luxurious, and Comfort Suites, Kissimmee doesnt exactly fit the title.
