Pros: Happy backs and restful sleep at a great price! We found an honest merchant.
Cons: Noisy pump but since it doesn't get used much, it doesn't matter.
The Bottom Line: We have bought additional mattresses for my mother and daughter. Everyone loves it. Don't get talked into more expensive beds.

After hearing the propaganda about air mattresses and space age foams, we figured that it might be time to replace our old conventional mattress and take a walk on the wild side. My research led me to Select Comfort and Comfortaire. SC has stores in our malls, so we went in to see what all the fuss was about. They felt good but cost a small fortune for the recommended top of the line models and they want you to buy their foundations too.
I found several Comfortaire dealers online and got through to Elixa.com on the first try. They seemed very knowledgeable and friendly, but what really impressed me was that they didn't recommend the most expensive top of the line. Apparently they sell 90% non-pillow tops with the memory foam upgrade and they have the best prices (I shopped around!).
It turns out that all you really need for the best support and comfort is the adjustable air bladder and visco memory foam. When you pile more layers on top of that, it cuts down on the benefits. Also they told us that the digital control pump adds about $300 to the price and you don't need it. Amazing to hear a salesperson talk you out of spending money! She even told me that I didn't need a new foundation if ours was still flat and that I could put a piece of plywood on top of the boxspring if it had any sag.
With Comfortaire's 20 year history, good warranty, and liberal return policy, we decided to trust Elixa and ordered the bed. It arrived within a week as promised, was easy to set up, and sleeps like a dream.
